Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone's babies still taking bottles?

I BF DS for 1 year and I should have never started him on a bottle but we transitioned with BM in a bottle and then 1/2 mixed with Enfamil Next Step formula. He went to whole milk around 13.5 months. The problem I am having is he will NOT take milk out of a sippy cup. I have tried all different types, even the Nuby which is similar to a bottle. He drinks water and juice (occasionally) out of all different types of sippys all day long but the second I put milk in there, he won't take it. He is 16 months now. He takes about 4-5 bottles of milk a day.

He "needs" a bottle before bed and before naps. He is not falling asleep with the bottle, but he drinks the bottle in the rocking chair while I read to him and then I put him in his crib awake and he falls asleep. But, if we skip the bottle he won't go in his crib w/o crying. Anyone else have this problem? or any ideas on how to solve it? Should I force the issue or just let him have his bottles for now? WDYT?

TIA :)

  • We're still all on bottles... I'm worried this will be us in the future.?

  • DD was doing mostly cups other than at bedtime (like yours, except she'd chill on the couch with me to drink it). Then I started babysitting and he has a bottle constantly. I can't exactly NOT give her one when he has one. It's frustrating. He won't drink from a cup (close to 15 months) without spitting it all out or just flat out refusing.

  • Yep DS still gets 3 bottles during the week and two on the weekends. He'll drink chocolate milk from a straw but regular milk is a big no. The truth is my pedi. told me he's not a cow and can get calcium from other sources and to get rid of the bottle. He doesn't eat much so I feel he needs those bottles.

  • Guilty. My son is almost 22 months. He get 2 a day one before nap and one before bed. He doesn't fall asleep with it, it's just part of routine. My mom said we all had them until about 2.5. My pedi wanted them off by 18 months, but my bro is a pedi dentist and his teeth are all in good shape so I am not too concerned.

  • DS still has a bottle of milk before his  1 nap and at bedtime. I don't have a problem with it.

  • Ok good, I am glad I am not alone. I am going to try to at least get him down to 2-3 bottles (before nap(s) and bedtime). It seems like it is his comfort thing. I hate to take it away but I know he cant have it forever.
