So we had our big u/s today. It was so amazing seeing the baby on the screen, we got to see every little bit.
And...... IT'S A BOY!!! He was not afraid to show us the goods right there on screen.
But, I have to go back in 6 weeks to get a more intensive ultrasound. They found basically some small cysts on his brain during today's ultraound. There is a name for it, something with a c - plexus? My OB said he doesn't see it that often, but it's something that normally clears itself up by the 26th week.
We told our families tonight, I will have to post pictures later on the cake that DH made. It was pretty good.

choroid plexus cysts - very very common... so common it's possible that maybe most babies have them at some point or another but we just don't always see them because it's not like you have u/s ever week
Henry and Jack had them too - they were there around 16/17 weeks and gone by 20 & 24...very very rarely they can be linked with other problems but again... are they really linked or do most babies just have them? kwim? my peri was very very reassuring both times that in the absence of other glaring abnormalities it's really not a big deal.
congratulations mama!!! little boys are wonderful!!!!
ETA: the choriod plexus area of the brain where they are located helps in spinal fluid production - that's what the cysts are made of (collected spinal fluid). so while it's probably not ideal to have pockets of fluid in there, that area isn't used for any cognitive function or anything so it's not like the baby can have "brain damange" or anything from them... make sense?
Ok, I finally found my cord to upload the pictures of the cake.
Here is the cake that DH made. We were going for something smaller, but this is what we were able to get.
My mom was the one to cut into it, everyone was so excited. This is all that we had left, we gave my mom some to take to my brothers.
hannah - Thanks for the info on the choroid plexus. I think DH is honestly worried more than I am. My friend is an RN and told me the same thing, that it is very likely they will go away by my next ultrasound.

yay, a boy!! congrats!
a choroid plexus cyst is nothing to worry about. DD had one and we had a really awful perinatalogist explain them to us which made me worry unnecessarily and pressure us to get an amnio even though it was clearly not indicated. Long story short, DD is perfectly healthy and fine and her CPC had disappeared by the time I had another u/s at 30 weeks.
Congrats!!
I think one of Babbs' girls had those cysts too, and it resolved itself. Try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know)>
Congratulations! Boys are so much fun
Hope everything looks good next time around.

I hope the cyst situation clears up quickly and easily on its own.
