Enfamil Premium Lipil & Constipation

My LO has been on this formula but has been very gassy, fussy, and is constantly constipated.  By day 6 I can't take it any longer and we've been told by our pediatrician to help her release by taking a rectal temperature.  I really don't like doing this all the time and the pediatrician doesn't want me to do it all the time either.   However, I can't stand her suffering any longer than 6 days.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Oh, pediatrician also suggested to try the Karo syrup.  LO throws up whenever I put it into her formula.  Then for the next several feedings she'll hardly eat.  So I've stopped the Karo syrup.

Re: Enfamil Premium Lipil & Constipation

  • Are you willing to try a soy formula? We use Similac soy and it's been working great. With the other two we used Enfamil regular and they were constipated and gassy. Also try gripe water for the gas.

  • We had this problem with their Gentlease formula - she was screaming her head off for hours until we (interestingly enough) switched to Premium Lipil. I think it's really individual to each baby, though I did notice that the Gentlease has corn syrup solids as its first ingredient.
  • Our pedi has us adding 1 tsp of flax seed oil to her bottle twice daily. I just started this yesterday so I can't comment on how it's working! DD is on Enfamil Lipil Premium - everything else we tried made her spit up terribly.

  • Our doctor actually recommended 4 oz. water mixed with brown sugar (not sure how much but you can google it) for our first DD, as she always had this problem.  It worked like a charm.  DS was having  a hard time last week and we tried (we only gave him 2 oz. of the mixture) and it worked for him too.
  • Are you using the RTF or the powder?  If you are using the RTF, definitely try the Soy.  We did this for DD due to gas/constipation and she did great on it.

If you are using powder, make sure that you are not using packed scoops when mixing.  This causes your LO to get to much powder which in turns binds them up.  I had this problem over a couple of days with DS and couldn't figure out what the problem was until I saw someone post about it.
