? about NB wool & poo

This was posted on our local CDing listserv.

If you have a NB and are using wool, how do you prevent the "poo juice"  from getting on the wool?

The mom who asked this question was using PF's and wool and said that the liquid from the poo was soaking through the diaper and into the wool, hence she would need to wash the wool constantly.

This is making me 2nd guess buying any wool for baby #2

  • I can see it running out the sides or back, but if it is "soaking through" then she's not changing them enough, or is using something like Gerber PFs.

Personally, I would only use wool with fitteds for this reason on a newborn.

  • i have been using exclusively prefolds and wool thus far, and i've only had poop get on the wool once.  it wasn't even enough to have to wash the whole thing--i just spot cleaned the area that got dirty.

I thought of you- maybe she has bad PF's... she made it sound like her LO's poos were really watery/juicy...

  • Hey ... that mom was me!  And I asked that question here, too, and on Ravelry, for that matter :)  I am using a diaper service, and I change ever 1.5-2 hours, or whenever I hear her poop, whichever comes first.

Most of the answers I got were something to the tune of "yes, this will be a problem until the poo gets a little more solid."  One of the women on Rav, though, said that she doesn't was the covers unless they stink ...
