Debate about baby shower gifts with bf

Ok, so my shower was this weekend, and I got a few items from the dollar store. Bibs and baby spoons and plates don't bother me, but lotion and baby gel (flame if you want), I would never use this stuff on my daughter or myself, but I don't want to throw it away. My bf said it was tacky for people to shop at the dollar store for baby gifts. I said maybe they didn't have a lot and it was the thought that counted. WDYT?

Re: Debate about baby shower gifts with bf

  • i think times are really tough right now and they probably didn't want to show up empty handed...so they wanted to get you a little something. granted, the dollar store doesn't have high quality stuff but i agree, it's the thought that counts.

  • I agree with you.  It's definitely the thought that counts!  Instead of throwing it away though, I am sure a women's shelter would love that as a donation!

  • DH and I plan on buying most things ourselves so anything we get at the shower is just an added bonus.  I know that in the past I havent been the best shower buyer just b/c I was broke.  Granted I never bought anything at the dollar store but I would buy just one outfit just to give something.

This was my idea exactly.  I wouldn't use $ tree products on LO's skin.

  • I'm with you all, its the thought that counts. Pass the stuff that you don't want onto someone that could use them.

    Hope you enjoyed your shower.

  • I also agree. It's the thought that counts. She probably wanted to give you a gift but was limited w/ the funds but didn't want to show up empty handed.

You can always donate the items you don't want to a woman's shelter. Im sure they'll gladly take it!
