Baby pulling away from left breast, screaming

My 1.5 week old pulls away from the left breast screaming SOMETIMES.  There are times that he latches on without a problem and other times he won't even try to latch on.  One friend suggested the my letdown was too much for him - but this doesn't explain why he won't try to latch on.  I express some milk before putting him to the left breast but this doesn't seem to be making a huge difference.  Any ideas?

Re: Baby pulling away from left breast, screaming

  • has he already eaten off the right breast when he does this? he might be full. my LO did that sometimes. or he might have gas? my LO had problems with the left one. for me, it does have a much quicker let down, and he eats for about 1/2 the time on it that he does on the right just b/c he gets it so fast. i know how frustrating this can be. i wanted to quit a lot those first few weeks, but i hung in there. keep with it and if you need to, call a lactation consultant or your pediatrician!
