Birthday gift for 1 year old?

My husband and I are godparents to a little boy who is turning 1 year old and we're not parents ourselves, so we're completely clueless when it comes to the "in" thing for 1 year olds. Does anyone have any suggestions of toys or things that we can get for him as a birthday gift?

Thanks so much for your help ~

Re: Birthday gift for 1 year old?

  • We got our God son the Pottery Barn Anywhere chari. Our dd loves hers and Ben loves his and he is now 2!

  • Depends what you want to spend. DD loves her Cozy Coupe.

  • There are very cute ceramic monogrammed piggy banks.

    monogrammed cloth, nice growth chart

At this point, since the child won't know if he got something fun or not, I would likely get something like I mentioned above that is personalized and can be used for a long time, in addition to a cool board book or two or small toy.

  • If you're looking for something a little more expensive, the Fisher Price laugh and learn house is really cute!  DS got that for his birthday and LOVES it!  If you want something a little less expensive, any of the Little People toys are cute.  They haev a number of sets- train, plane, barn, Noah's Ark, etc.  DS also likes all the stuff from the Busy Ball line.  The Busy Ball popper gets a little crazy, but DS loves running after the balls and watching them pop out again.

  • Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far!

I think we'd like to stay below the $75 range for those of you who were asking.

I love the ideas so far - but it never hurts to have too many ideas, so keep them coming!!!
