NTR: If you've had poison ivy...

...how long did it take for the rash to go away?  I've had it for a week and a half and I'm miserable.  Tell me there's an end in sight :(

  • have you washed everything you wore the day you got it? I would wash it all again and your bed sheets. That oil is hard to get off.

  • It seems like it should be geting better by now.  If it's not I'd try to see a doc.

  • My DH and I have constant poison ivy during the spring/summer/fall.  We are both highly allergic.  The best thing we have found to cure the itching is to stand with hot water hitting the poison ivy patch.  It will feel weird like it is being scratched, it's relieving and painful at the same time.  Anyway stand with the water on it for a good amount of time and then it shouldn't itch again for about 8 hours.  Just make sure the water is hot but not hot enough to really burn you.  GL.
  • DH had it for over a week---he finally went to the doctor and they gave him some cortisone cream and steroids to clear it up.  It cleared up in a couple of days after he started treatment.

  • I've been neurotic about washing everything - my clothes, our sheets, the towels I use....

  • If it's not starting to dry up at all, you may need to go to the doctor and get a cortisone shot.  I've had to do that before and it helps really quickly.

I can't use the steriod cream because I'm pregnant :(

I'm going to try this right now!  I can't imagine having to deal with this constantly.  I don't know how you do it!

Definitely try this.  It doesn't stop my itching for even close to 8 hours but it feels great while I'm doing it.  I'm super allergic to poison ivy.  I almost always end up having to get a steroid prescription although I've never had to have a shot, it's usually a cream or a pill.
