Showering is so painful on my nipples I actually dread it. Does anyone have any tips on how to shower without it hurting so much? I was ready to cry today it hurt so much
It was painful for 4-6 weeks, and then it went away. This too shall pass...I promise! I used to shield my nipples with my hands because the water hurt too bad when it was beating down.
The tenderness should go away over the next couple of weeks or so, I'd think. Mine have been tender in the beginning with each child but after the first couple of weeks are not an issue.
I showered in a bra for a few times. I also just kept my back to the shower head and covered up the boobs when I had to turn around. The pain passes...hang in there.
I 2nd lathering on the nipple cream before you get in. Our shower head is more like "rain" it comes down instead of right on my chest, so that helped a LOT early on! Maybe you could adjust the shower head so it doesn't hit directly on your chest?
Thanks all! I had been putting Lanisoh on after I showered--- I will have to try it before along with the washcloth. I haven't been facing the showerhead, but sometimes you have to, you know?
I know some people have pain BFing, but I was told by my LC that if you latch properly, it shouldn't cause pain. (sorry to those of you who lach proper and still have pain.. no fun.) I would talk to you LC about that. So much pain that a shower hurts is just not a good thing! =( Sorry.
I would cup my nipples with my hands when facing the shower head...the warm wate gently running over them felt good, but the direct hits hurt like a mofo. It really does get better though!

Yep, this is what I was gonna say - cup your hands and let your nipples soak a bit in the warm water. I would cover them with an arm while facing the showerhead otherwise. It got better by weeks 5-6.
so sorry it hurts! is your baby latching properly? maybe try pumping to feed for a few days to let the nipples heal in the meantime. showering actually feels good to me!

Ugh I can't wait until they stop hurting!
This - the worst part for me was the towel after, even a small brush up hurt... BUT it does get way better! I promise!
