My grandma called me freaking out that her young grandchild in TX has "swine flu". She calls me the next day to say, "Ana's fine, it's just the regular flu."

I'm equally concerned about each flu, but mainly because I'm pregnant. ?Not like I ever want to be sick (or for DS or DH to be sick) but being sick while pregnant is awful and there are some increased risks involved.?

I'm equally worried about both, which is to say not too worried.
ETA: I have been vaxed for the regular flu and have discussed the H1N1 with my OB because I'm pg - otherwise I wouldn't get vaxed. DH and DS both get vaxed for the reg. flu because DH is diabetic and DS is a baby (duh)

I'm equally worried about both. Having had the seasonal flu plus complications while pregnant before, I'm just not into messing around with it. Either of them.
I'm not worried about the regular flu because it happens every year. Whether I get it or not, it still happens. My kids don't get the vaccine and neither do DH or I (me, whichever it is I try to not worry or panic over things I can't control. I just wash my hands more and wash my kids hands more and try to control their contact with infected people as much as I can. I figure if we get the flu, or H1N1 for that matter, we'll take care of it when we get there.
i agree. there was just 3 confirmed cases of it in daycare this past week (in home daycare) and the MN Dept of Health closed daycare for 1 week but it's not like i freaked out over it.
I'd prefer none of us get either flu, but I think the scary thing about swine flu is that there are more otherwise healthy people getting it, getting sicker from it and in some cases dying. Seasonal flu, while it sucks, typically only kills people who are in a high-risk group. Locally, an otherwise healthy college freshman just died of swine flu. I'm not panicking about it, but that part of it is scary.
I am not concerned about the swine flu, but I just had a co-worker out for 2 weeks with influenza A...she claims that she "would have died" if she hadn't had her flu shot. But this is the same lady where there is always something wrong with her.
I really wasn't worried about either flu until I took DD in for her 15 month checkup yesterday and there were so many kids there with the flu. We had to wait 1.5 hours just to see the doctor. Pedi also said many of the pharmacies in our area are out of tamiflu......aren't we just at the beginning of the flu season?

One other thing to consider is that Australia's flu season (which already occured) has been studied extensively, and it looks like swine flu crowded out the other flus because it is so virulent. While there will still be the regular seasonal flus floating around, it looks like the piggy flu has a tendency to take over.
I would not be stressed over it at all except that I am pregnant. If I contract it in the 1st tri, the fevers could=bad things. If I contract it later in the pregnancy, it could take a serious toll on both me and baby. Also, as pp mentioned, it is affecting strange age groups and "acts" differently than the seasonal flu in this respect.

Re: Why isn't anyone worried or panicking about regular flu?
Because the media isn't telling us to.
My grandma called me freaking out that her young grandchild in TX has "swine flu". She calls me the next day to say, "Ana's fine, it's just the regular flu."
How do you say...::headdesk::
I love you!
Ditto star- because the media isn't pushing that.

LOL. Back 'atcha.
I'm not concerned about either.
Where's my mom of the year badge?!
I am not worried about either of them. It is not like it is Ebola or something!
ditto.
