2nd Trimester

For those of you that are back and tummy sleepers...

At what point did you stop sleeping on your back and then also stop sleeping on your tummy?  I was told not to sleep on my back anymore after 16 weeks so I still have time but that is going to be hard.  How did you manage?  Last night I tried but ended up sleeping on my belly most of the night and I know that won't last too much longer either...  Hmm, ponder ponder.  Wink

  • Sleep however you want until it becomes uncomfortable. Your body will let you know when to change positions,

  • once I got my body pillow I've been "training" myself to sleep on my side.  I have found myself waking up on my back but since I have been tossing an turning a lot at night I don't think I'm on my back that long.

  • when it was uncomfortable i stopped ... i couldn't lay on my tummy anymore it hurt and laying on my back sucked ... so now i'm a side sleeper
  • I slept on my tummy until it wasn't comfy anymore (last week sometime). I still sleep on my back. I am not flat on my back though, since I prop my shoulders on a pillow and my head on 2 pillows. I also put a pillow under my knees which feels great on my lower back. Sleeping comfortably has just started to be an issue for me this week.

  • I still sleep on my back sometimes.

Sleeping on my side gets to be too painful on my back, no matter how many pillows I use to prop various body parts.

Me too on the "sleeping comfortably" just becoming an issue thing.  I was good up 'til this week.  I never sleep on my tummy though and have no plans to stop sleeping on my back until I'm not comfortable with that anymore.  No one's told me otherwise.

  • I just in the last few weeks have had to try to stop sleeping on my back because it was causing discomfort. I still sometimes find myself on my back when I wake up throughout the night and just readjust.  A nurse that I have spoken to said that it doesn't harm the baby for you to sleep on your stomach or back, but that it is better for your circulation and other bodily functions for you to sleep on your side and that if you find yourself on your stomach or back that you should just roll over and don't panic about it. Apparently it's more of a comfort thing than anything. Just don't stress about it.
  • I still sleep on my stomach well its kinda on the side of my stomach. I cant fall asleep completely on my side so it's gonna be hard when my stomach gets uncomfortable.
  • Women have slept however they wanted for centuries and NOTHING happened because of it. So, sleep however you want as long as you're comfortable.
  • I can lend you my pug, who sleeps sideways and takes up the ENTIRE bed, and makes it impossible not to sleep on my side. He will also keep you extremely warm if you are cold.

  • I always fall to sleep on my side and wake up on my back. I will probably keep doing this until I feel uncomfortable. I assume that will be in a few months.

  • You need a Snoogle. I swear this has saved my life.  I didn't like it that much when I first bought it but now I couldn't live without it.  You can not only snuggle into it with it on your front side but if you kind of put it behind you and bring the bottom through your legs and and your head on the top, you can lean into it and it kinda feels like sleeping on your back but not!
  • sometimes I sleep half on my belly and half on my side if that makes sense? I am a tummy sleeper and it is hard to not sleep that way. I know in the near future I will have to just sleep on my side and not half and half. I do fall asleep on my back a lot too, but I am not worried about staying on my back long because I move constantly when I sleep. I am never in the same position for long, I've always been this way.

  • i am 23+ weeks and i still sleep on my back. my dr. said it is fine and that when i can't anymore, i won't. she said your body will you tell you when.....

so if your dr. said no, then i would go with that...but if your dr. hasn't said anything, i would worry about it. your body will tell you.

  • I try to go to sleep on my side but eventually wake up on my back.  I've always slept on my back and I'm guessing once it's uncomfortable, I'll stop rolling that way and stay on my side.  I also heard that your body will tell you when you should stop sleeping on your back/tummy.
  • 18 weeks no tummy and I somehow still end up on my back, so sure how much longer on that one. I do try to fall asleep on my side.

  • I still sleep on my stomach but its becoming uncomfortable.  I just can't sleep any other way.  When I lay on my stomach I can realy feel the baby kick.  I ordered a Snoogle yesterday. Hopefully it will make side sleeping more comfortable.

  • I sleep either on my side with the body pillow, or I prop 2 pillows under my head/shoulders and sleep on my back.  However, my hubs really enjoys shoving his arm under my pillows in his sleep and knocks my nicely propped pillows all over the place and then I get grumpy.  Hehe.

  • i still sleep on my back. i cant help it, i stop sleeping on my tummy at about 17 weeks.

This.  I asked my doctor, and she said it is not unsafe to sleep on your back until about 35 weeks.
