Breastfeeding Class Question...

My husband is really concerned that he will be the only dad there and doesn't want to feel stupid, so for those who have taken a breastfeeding class did the Dads attend? On the registration form, it says that partners are encouraged to come, so I want him there and he will go but he just doesn't want to be the only man there.

    Ours was last night, there were probably 10 or so couples there, and only three women there alone.  There was actually a TON of information directed to the dads there. Things they can do to help the baby learn to suck correctly, relax its jaw, and just help mom in general. Take your husband! He will learn a lot!

    I am taking a class tomorrow night.  DH is working so I am bringing my sister with me.  They said he should come with you, but if he can't come he can't come.

    my DH is going. the nurse that taught our childcare/labor and delivery class said he should so he's on board, plus i would have made him. i've heard from a lot of mom's that it's great and very informative for Dads too.

    I took it and there were not any men there. My hubby did Not want to go but he did look at the material I brought home.

    I went to a breastfeeding class and the dads were welcomed but warned that it might be uncomfortable.  Maybe 3 dads came and honestly, I wish they hadn't.  They just turned red and snickered the whole time.  I had to sit by one of them and it really sucked.  I was glad my DH wasn't there and I personally would have felt more comfortable if other women had left theirs at home as well.

    My husband came to ours and I'd say out of the 10 or so women that were in my class 8 came with husbands.

    My husband is coming fgor sure.  Ours is on Monday.  I've been advised that BFing is a two-person job at the beginning when you're trying to get the correct latch.

    MH couldn't come b/c we didn't have a sitter for DD, but 4 out of 6 of the women in my class brought their SO.  I didn't think it was weird or uncomfortable having the men there in the class at all.

    No dads attended the BF class I went to, though the class was geared to include any men who showed up.

    I haven't gone yet, but I've heard its very beneficial for the dads to go and my DH will be attending ours.

    I have not attended mine yet, but my husband is coming to it.  At the birth class we took the instructor said that husbands were encouraged to attend.

    I'm taking a BFing class and DH is planning on coming.... although he is not thrilled about it.  Big Smile

    Yes he came, reluctantly. We had a huge class, maybe 2 woman did not a SO with them.?

    DH wanted to come, but was afraid he'd be the only man in the room.  The course description said birth partners should be there, so he ended up going and was so glad he did. Everyone there brought a partner and at the break, DH turned to me and said, "I'm so glad I'm here."  The class was about much more than just latching and engorgement.  It was also about ways DH can participate and bond with the baby while I'm BFing.  And, she taught us some great techniques for calming the baby and settling the baby after eating - all things she recommended DH do while I go back to sleep!

    I had my class on Friday and 7 of the 9 women had their spouses there with them.  My DH was traveling so I was a loner.  Definitely helpful for them to hear some of the stuff and learn how to support you during the BF, especially during the first few weeks when it is difficult.

    It was primarily couples at our breastfeeding class. There were only one or two women without their SOs.
