Babies: 9 - 12 Months

My dad might be moving to Italy.

There is an elementary assistant principal position open and my dad has wanted to go to this particular school for a long time (it was one that my dad had applied for when we lived in Bahrain).  I don't have a lot of details yet, but hopefully my dad will get back to me to let me know when he will know for sure.

Part of me is sad that my dad might be leaving Spain, since that is where I graduated and I have always considered it to be my home, but the bigger part of me is so happy for my dad.  He will get to live in a new place, travel to more places, and get a pay raise of course.  Right now he is a teacher, so if he becomes an AP, there is a pay raise involved.

  • Wow, you've lived all over the place!  I can understand feeling sad that you're losing your "roots" in Spain.  I hope that he gets the job!

  • Aww. Think of what an amazing experience it will be for him! I know that's easy for me to say. Hang in there! By the way, you lived in Bahrain? That's so cool! What was it like?
  • I was going to say that I couldn't imagine my dad living that far away, but if he's already in Spain I guess the distance won't really matter to you!  That is exciting for him!
  • Good for him! I hope he gets it.

  • This sounds great for your dad!  As long as he's excited for the opportunity then you've got to take full advantage...you have a free place to stay if you ever want to go to Italy!

It was interesting!  I moved there when I was 10 and then we moved to Spain when I was 16.  My school had 52 nationalities so I learned a lot about people from all over.  I still keep in touch with a bunch of them via FB so that's pretty cool.  I don't miss the extreme heat though.  In the summer it was nothing for it to get to 130 with 99% humidity.  Our dog would run outside, pee, then jump in the pool.  LOL

  • My family is from Italy =) I go all the time. Where in Italy? It's hard when you thought of Spain as your home and won't be able to visit as much as you would have if he lived in Spain. But now you will be able to take the kids to visit Italy too.
  • Wow, that's so exciting. I can understand why you are a little sad though. Wouldn't it be great to have a cheap vacation spot though?!

The base is in Aviano.  I think that is in northern Italy.  I have been to Naples and Sicily before.  I love Italy.  I would LOVE to take my family there one day...when the kids are older and can really understand and appreciate it.  I am crossing my fingers he gets the job!!
