Hip problems and PG

After 9 months of hip pain, I was finally diagnosed with hip dysplasia which is causing hip bursitis and myofacitis.  Yea it sucks.  I am almost positive that some of the pain is coming from all the fertility treatment hormones and my hips spreading.  I could be crazy but jeans just don't fit the same.

So has anyone had any hip problems and gone forward with TTC and PG.  Right now, I have been taken off all impact exercise (which is killing me) and I can basically only swim.  But if this does not work then a surgery that will pretty much stop TTC for about 2 years.  So give me some hope..............

  • Oh no, I'm so sorry!  My only hip problems were in high school so I can't give you any tips.  I am sending you some hugs Right Hug

  • Awww thanks.  It has been a weird journey of less exercise and more pain.

  • I have tendonitis in my right hip -- it started in 2000 -- and it was a huge pain during pregnancy. Given how it was bent, it hurt worse than pushing during labor (thanks to the epidural) and I was in pain for weeks afterward. Bah.

This is my fear.  I don't want to spend a pregnancy on pain killers and not being able to walk.

  • I have a pretty severe hip problem. I let my OB know about it early in my pregnancy and she wrote me a script for PT. Unfortunately I was put on bed rest the day I was supposed to start PT. In the end though I had no problems at all, I think the loosening of my joints actually helped a little. I think you'll be fine, don't let a hip problem stop you, there are ways to deal with it. Good luck! Hip problems are no fun.
  • Both my hips are bad...and I need both of them replaced. The only exercise I am allowed is water walking (lame!)  I was really worried about having children and putting that extra strain on my body but it was worth it.  I had to have a c-section because there is no way on earth I can do it the old fashion way. I didn't really start to have unmanagable pain until the last half. I lived with it but my Dr. told me that if I couldn't she would find something to help with the pain.  Afterwards was probably the worst for me it felt like my hips where popping out of socket but now that they are back to "normal" everything feels good.  I plan on having baby #2 asap so that I can be done and then fix my hips.  I would just take it easy physically and go for it! :)

  • Sorry to hear of your pain!  I don't have specific hip issues, but could you possibly do a water treadmill?

The Pro Club PT department (you dont' have to be a member to do PT there) uses an aquatic treadmill for some treatments.  It was wonderful for me when I had an undiagnosed foot injury that multiple drs said to do surgery (even though they didn't really know what was wrong...)  It was really awesome to do rehab that way since it completely reduced the impact (they can adjust the water level to vary how weight bearing it is)

    Best of luck!
