We did a photographer that came to our house when DD was 10 days old. She recommends as early as possible for NB pics. I think the total with prints some are framed and some aren't came to about $2,500. I know it's crazy but this will also include the photo sessions when she's 6 and 12 month old, just not the prints.

WE got a crazy good deal from a photog just starting out. $50 for her to come to our house twice (once for a consult, once for the actual session) and a credit toward a print package.
We ended up spending a total of $200 because we bought a bunch of additional prints PLUS birth announcements through her.
For the number of times we're probably going to want her picture taken professionally, I just couldn't swallow spending what I would spend on a one-time event, like a wedding.
Haha I think the two PP are both from MI, as am I. Unemployment is at 15% here... I think if photogs were charging $2500 here, they would quickly be out of business.
A friend of mine did ours for free, but her regular rate to come to your house and do one session is $150. She also has package deals for the first year of photos. The prints cost $30 for a 5x7, which I think is a little high.

Same. We paid a one time sitting for for the year, she comes every 3 months. The prints are the expensive part - they are like works of art (in fact, they are - she is a published photographer). So every three months I spent way too much money - but he's adorable, the pictures are fabulous and I don't think we'll ever regret it.

These aren't the kind of photogs that you find at BRU. I'm sure you have this caliber of photographers there too.
Holy Sh!!!T at how much people paid! Must be nice to have that kind of extra spending $$ laying around!
THIS.
I paid exactly $0.00. We have a pretty decent camera, so DH and I have been taking pics ourselves. If I had $2000 laying around I'd get a fricking sweet camera and never pay for another professional photographer ever again.
Our session fee was $49, and we're buying a digital package that includes rights to 18 poses and digital images, and a printed 5 x 7 of each pose- the package is about $250.

We paid about $500...this was for about 6 5x7s and a 20x20 custom framed 'painting'. We use the same photographer that did our wedding pics so the style is the same throughout our house. He also e mails me high resolution pictures of what I order and takes as many pics as I want. He also took a family picture of the 3 of us for our Christmas card.
$600 total for newborn, 6 months & 1 year. The first session came with an 11x14 print, 50 announcements (which were very artistic, opened like a card and the cover was a 5x7 print-no words so it could be framed), 12 wallets and 4x6 proofs of all 50 pictures she took. The remaining two sessions will each come with an 11x14 print and 12 wallets.
DH and I decided we would spend $1500 on a brand new digital camera. That, and a $60 black velvet background did wonders. Here is one of the pics we took.

Yes, exactly! The prints are what were drove the cost up. The are very much works of art and my photographer does shoots for TV shows too so... It is so hard to control myself when it comes her pics.

We got a free newborn session, and paid $250 for the rights to all the images.
We also bought a first years package with a different photographer.... she does 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. This will include rights to all images, and a custom designed album at the end of the year. We are paying $900, which equals out to $150 per session (but includes the images and album).

I'm well aware of what kind of photogs you're talking about. I'm telling you there aren't many here because people are barely making their house payments.
For the record, I used a professional photographer. The prices just aren't as insane as some of these.

Holy crap! My nursery furniture didn't even cost $1,000! I think this is really going to depend on the area you live in.
Our pictures were $100 (photographer is a family friend). She gave us the rights to the disk so we can print our own photos. They turned out great!

This makes so much sense.
