Re: mexican white cheese dip...

  • As far as I know cheese has never killed a baby before.

Eat all the queso you please.

This. If it's made with unpasteurized queso fresco or queso blanco it could be a no-no.

  • Well.... I had some today so I definately hope its safe!  As far as I have learned, the big issue with cheesse/dairy is to make sure it's pasturized which I'm pretty sure cheese dip is!
  • Does anyone have a good recipe for white queso?!?! It's an emergency!

  • I would say unless you are going to mexico to get it, it would be completely safe because the cheese dips at most resturants are made with white american cheese which is pasturized. plus it is cooked/heated so any bacteria is killed.

  • As long as it's made with pasteurized cheese, you're fine.  The VAST majority of cheese in this country is pasteurized, which you can find by reading the ingredients.

Out at restaurant, I'd inquire if you went to a super fancy Mexican restaurant - but if you're going to a chain, it's probably safe.

Question though: since the cheese is heated, does this negate the unpasteurized risk since pasteurization is essentially heating?  Or does it not reach the correct temperature for the correct amount of time?

    Yes

I have had mexican food so much and my son is still ok. The cheese dip is my favorite.
