bleeding at 13.5 weeks...

It upsets me to have to post this, because I thought I would be moving over to the 2nd Trimester board today. Last night around 7 p.m. I went to use the bathroom and discovered a large blood spot.. I looked down to see a large amount of blood coming out. I have had no cramping at all during the last week, and no spotting at all during the course of the pregnancy so far.

I called the emergency line for my OBGYN and she called me back within 5 minutes and told me that I could either go to the ER or come in first thing in the morning for an ultrasound. She told me that as long as I was not passing clots/tissue or filling up a pad every hour on the hour, that it was not necessary to go to the ER. Of course I went anyway....

To make a long story short, they took blood, urine, and did an ultrasound and a pelvic exam. The baby appears to be fine. There is still no explaination for the bleeding.

Today I feel mild cramping and I am spotting brown blood, which is somewhat reassuring from the gush of red blood from last night.

My next OB appointment is on Thursday for my routine exam. I just had to run this by you ladies to see if anyone has had a similar experience. Although we saw our baby on the ultrasound last evening, I'm still spotting and the cauase of the bleeding is still unknown.

Is it possible that you have a Subchorionic Hematoma? My Dr. diagnosed me with that a few weeks ago because I had the same type of bleeding. Alot of times you can see them on the Ultrasound. Sorry you are having to go through this! It is stressful I know, but try and keep your chin up, and lay down or something if the bleeding comes back.

I forgot to mention that if the SCH has already bleed out, they might not see on the Ultrasound, and there for would be called unexplained bleeding.

I remember with DD, I started bleeding right after I announced my pregnancy to work. I guess that was around 12.5 weeks. The only explanation I got was possible bleeding due to vessels attaching, growing, stretching, etc. It lasted for about 3 days in total.

Hang in there - I know it's scary and a horrible feeling but your U/S showed a healthy baby. So try to concentrate on that!

I just had bleeding last weekend at 17 weeks. I went to the ER - baby is fine, my doctors office chalks it up to a burst blood vessel. The bleeding last about 4 days. Once it stopped I'm not allowed to do anything straining & no sex for 7 days.

I had a f/u u/s this past Friday to check on baby again. Everything is still great!

My doctor mentioned a broken blood vessel as well. Did you have red blood, and then brown spotting for the next several days? Any cramping?

I had a subchorionic hematoma at 12 weeks. I spotted for the better part of a month after the initial ER visit.
