Just thought this article was interesting.  But again, all studies like this get a raised eyebrow from me, so read it with a grain of salt.

New study says spanking lowers IQ

    The findings are nothing new.

    I might implore people to read the actual journal article before dismissing it as bunk.

    DH and I worked this out.  I'm Asian, which gives me +10 IQ points, but I was spanked, so subtract 5.  DH is white, but his parents were hands-off, so he gets +5.  We're even!  Stick out tongue

    A girl can dream!!! In an ideal world, there could be discussion about a thought provoking article and that discussion could stay appropriate and mature......but....this is the bump........

    My hypothesis as someone who gives IQ tests for a living: Children who are spanked are less likely to take risks for fear of giving a wrong answer, therefore they are less likely to take guesses and potentially get partial credit for an answer. Children who take risks and think out loud tend to get higher IQ scores, doesn't mean they are smarter just speaks to how other factors than IQ impact the test.

    Agree 100%, also as someone who gives IQ tests for a living.
