Pregnant after a Loss

First Nursery furniture PIP

We were at an auction for my great aunt a few weeks ago, and this bookshelf was up for auction. It was naked wood, just hammered together by someone for her to store stuff or something. Anyways, it only got auctioned for a dollar.

I told DH I wanted to stain and varnish it for Kaygan's room. He told me I wasn't allowed to varnish, but I could stain it. So, he went and got a can of stain and my mom and I set out to work on it. Little did we, or dh, know, it's stain and varnish in one.

I still did it, till dh came back and made me stop. He and my mom finished it up. I love it! I have a few other antique pieces that I plan to finish the same way, and we'll be getting a dark crib to match them all!

  • Very nice!  I found our nursery bookshelf at an antique shop - it's just the right wood color, so we don't need to do a thing to it :)  However, the night stand we found at the same shop will need to be stripped, varnished and stained.  It's definitely a great way to save money - don't always have to buy new!

  • I totally agree Kristin. I actually prefer to use antique stuff that has been redone and 'modernized'. DH isn't so crazy about it, since he gets stuck doing alot of it though!
