Trying to Get Pregnant

No period, but negative tests

I don't get it!!! Finally, the period isn't here, but the 2 tests I've taken are both negative. I really don't understand why. I've been having a bit of bad abdominal pain the last week and a half, plus some bloating, so I assume it's related with the no period thing. Now I've googled myself scared into endometriosis or a cyst. I went off the pill and have had normal periods every month starting in May. Has anyone else had a normal cycle for 4 months then had it stop and not be pregnant? This is so stressful!

Re: No period, but negative tests

  • Are you charting?  Do you know if/when you ovulated?

  • Hey there!  Yep, it's normal to have an odd cycle every once in a while.  If you like, read some of the posts below.  There are similar questions with great responses.  Good luck!
  • It's possible that you haven't ovulated yet. You should start charting to help you to understand what is going on with your body. Here are some sites to help you.

  • Wait 60 days, if no BFP or AF call your dr. Your body can still be adjusting to getting off BC even after 4 months. Not all cycles are the same.
  • Yup, can happen. I wouldn't be self diagnosing endo or a cyst, step away from google.

  • I haven't been charting. But I have done those when was your last cycle, here's your best ovulation periods looking around. It's a psychological thing. If I start charting, that means I have to admit a problem. Kind of like TTC AA or something, hello my name is zesty_krstn and I am an ovulationholic.
  • Really? Here I thought I was soo lucky that my period came ON TIME the first four months in a row. It was like clock work. This time around, I was getting hopeful. Even told the husband I was taking a test (been married over a year, but how weird is it to try and NOT get pregnant for so long and now hoping to see those 2 pink lines!)
  • LOL!  It's okay!  Embrace it!
  • Ok. I'm new. What is BFP and AF?

The first 1/2 of your post made no sense

Charting is a way to educate yourself about how your body is or isn't working. It does not mean you have a problem. I think you will find that most people here are not going to take that comment

  • If you chart it does not mean you have a problem, it means are have control over what your body is doing. For example, you aren't sure if you have ovulated yet, if you charted you would have some idea of when you ovaulated and therefore know if you might possibily be pregnant. It is a good tool to use even if you are not trying to conceive. I suggest lurking around on here some more, if your period doesn't show in 60 days call your doc, otherwise just wait it out. PS: I suggest buying or checking out Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it is worth it!!!! Thank you fellow bumpers to opening my eyes.

  • Sorry. That was me just trying to explain why I haven't done any charting. It's just that I tried so long NOT to get pregnant and now that I am trying, it seems so easy for everyone else, you know, the saying like there's something in the water or something. I have a coworker who timed her pg EXACTLY to the week! Apparently I'm not drinking out of the same tap.
  • Seriously read Taking Charge of Your Pregnancy.

Then she was very very very lucky. Or a liar.

On average, it takes a couple a year to get KU. If you aren't wanting to chart at least ready Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You will learn so much about your body. For instance, did you know you can have a period without actually ovulating? It's called an anovulatory cycle. In fact, it's not unusual to have a cycle or two a year.

  • I'd say lucky, but more so very determined to time it exactly to where she could have the baby the first week of Dec. so she could get 2 year's worth of paid vacation out of it when she went on leave. She did that with the 1st baby too. Now I'm hoping she was a liar.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll have to go read those sites and books.

  • I'm in kind of the same situation. I went off the pill and while my cycles weren't regular the first few months, they seemed to be getting closer to what they were before I was on the pill (34 days). One was even spot on to 34 days. So, I figured I was getting on track. Then in August, 34 days came and went. I waited until day 38 to take a test, it was negative and I was confused. Decided to wait a week and if still no period I'd test again. Got my period on day 41.

I started charting after that and just bought Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It's actually really cool to be learning what is going on with my body. I totally wish that I had known about the Fertility Awareness Method years ago. I was apprehensive about starting the pill, but didn't think I had much choice. I'm starting to think I'll never go back (especially now that I'm married).

Good luck! You are definitely not alone in what you're feeling.
