DD was pretty small when she was born (5lbs 9oz), and even now at 3.5 months she is not yet 9 lbs. Her pedi feels that she is growing just fine, meeting all her milestones, etc. but she is still only eating 3-4 oz every feeding, so is eating every 3 hours around the clock. Pedi said that until baby is about 12 pounds, they usually cant get in enough milk to sleep longer periods. I feel like the wake-ups through the night disrupt any good sleep she may be having and she is cranky and over-tired a lot of the day but she will not take any more than 4 oz and even with that still spits up.
Anyone else experience the same thing? Any advice?
Re: 3 months and up every 3 hrs?
DS weighed 8lb's 9oz at birth and was up every 3 hours until 10 months. Eating every time.
There was nothing that ever really made him sleep....sorry that isn't exactly what you wanted to hear =/
DD, on the other hand, weighed 6lb's at birth and started STTN at 6 weeks - and she only drink 3-4oz every feeding at well....she'll spit up the rest too if I force it on her.
I think your LO will eat more and STTN when she is ready.
GL!
Thanks ladies, that makes me feel better.
Since being back to work, all my mommy-friends at work I swear seem to ask me every day if DD is STTN yet and when I say no its like they are shocked. It doesnt bother me at all, DH and I have a good routine worked out with her, but I felt like maybe she was "behind" with how often people ask and are suprised that she doesnt. I know she will sleep longer when she is ready. Thanks for the encouragement
I have the same issue. People look at me like I'm obviously doing something wrong when I say she's not STTN.
I think people tend to measure how "good" your baby is by when they STTN. People at my work just found out last week that ds doesn't STTN at 7 months and they were SHOCKED. I got many "girl, you need to get a full nights sleep" etc...and I just said-I'm fine with nursing him 1-2 times a night, he's thriving, and my work isn't suffering. That shut them up, and someone said, yeah, you don't look sleep deprived. Yes, I'd love a full 8 hours in a row. But for now what we're doing is working, and as long as what you're doing is working for you and your LO, then there is nothing wrong with it.
Yeah, me too. DD was close to STTN... but then decided that she wanted to go back to eating every 3 hours. The change drives me nuts, and of course I wish she would STTN, but it will happen someday.
