Babies: 0 - 3 Months

was i right?

we were invited to a one year old's birthday party yesterday. but beforehand her parents let us know that there would be another baby there that was exposed to chicken pox recently. we didn't want to chance it as DS is 3 months old and i don't want him to get it yet--i think he's just too young. was i right in not going to the party or am i being overly cautious/paranoid?

Re: was i right?

  • I would not go either!  At 3 months old there is enough going on without adding Chicken Pox to the mix!

  • you're right, I wouldn't go either!
  • You're right to not want your LO exposed.  I wouldn't go either.

  • of course you were right!
  • I wouldn't go either, because I don't believe in knowingly exposing babies to illness, but I got chicken pox at 4 months and my mom said it wasn't that bad to deal with. She didn't have to keep me from scratching, just had to keep the fever down and try to keep me comfortable. It wouldn't be great for a baby to get it, but it's also not the end of the world.
  • I've also heard of babies getting chicken pox and then getting them again as a child (when entering kindergarten, etc.)  So sometimes if they are exposed and get it as a baby, they may still get it later and will just end up being miserable twice.
