S/O Age and Looking Young

Whenever I'm out in public alone with DD I hardly ever have people coming up asking about her, but when I'm with DH we get asked about her often.

I look young for my age and still can't wear my wedding rings so I'm sure a lot of people assume I'm a teenage mom. In fact, I know they do - I've gotten plenty of looks. But it is just funny to me, and I'm definitely not complaining...no crazy strangers trying to touch my daughter :)

Anyone else notice this?

Re: S/O Age and Looking Young

  • I think i must look old i had a lady assume my 13yo brother was my son and i was shopping for my 16yo (at the time) SIL once and they asked if it was for my daughter. I was shopping in a juniors store!

  • I got that with my first....oh wait...I was a teen mom.

  • I'm 21, but I look younger depending on what I am wearing.  I hate to admit it, but I am still not in my pp clothes and refuse to buy new clothes since I am pretty close to fitting in them.  Many times if I am just running errands I wear an old band t-shirt of DH's and jeans.  I think it makes me look younger than what I am.  I haven't really noticed a difference though.  When I was pregnant I noticed a lot of people looking at my hand (I was too swollen to wear my wedding ring) and giving me nasty looks.
  • Before I had kids people used to think I was way younger than I was.  Now most people think I'm older than I am . . .
  • W/ #1 I got that alot. I looked really young at 24. Now its different. I get lots of comments about having 3 girls.
  • Yeah, I got the looks while pregnant too since I had to pry the rings off at 26 weeks.

I also don't do much to make myself look my age or older, I'm often in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt with my hair up and minimal make-up (if any)

My mom was carded well into her 30s (even when she would be out with friends younger than her who didn't get carded), looking young is in my genetics...haha

Butting in because I can't sleep....

I get this ALL the time. Its so annoying! I'm 22 and I get ID'ed for everything from NyQuil and to R movies. NICE. Now that my wedding rings don't fit and I'm so very pregnant I get some pretty nasty looks.

  • I got this with DS. I actually had someone at a wedding say the rudest thing ever. My mom introduced me to the bride's uncle and told him I was 4 months pregnant. He said that was nice, but his daughter was going to wait until she actually graduated college and started a career to have children. WTF...I told him I DID finish college, I HAVE started my career as an RN, and I am in grad school. Not that it would matter anyway. It was none of his business. Wow....I guess that still annoys me after all this time.
  • I'm 19, but people assume I'm older than I am, so it's never been much of a problem for me. I still look young enough that I notice people glance at my ring finger when they talk about my baby. They always look relieved when they see my wedding band.

But then again, my brother has a baby 2 weeks older than mine... and his GF is only 17. People still come up and chat her up about her baby, and she doesn't even look her age! lol. I'm always glad to see it though, because you can tell it makes her happy. =)

  • I went to get mani/pedi's with my mom and sis for my mom's birthday and we were talking about my LO.  The manicurest was like..."you have a baby?"  "How old are you? You look like 17/18."  Thanks, but I'm 24.  You'd think that she would assume I was in my 20's since we had been talking about how both my sis and I are teachers.  Pretty sure there aren't many 18y.o.'s that are teachers.
