I posted about this forever ago... I've finally finished the main part of the blanket! Just the sheep borders along the sides to go!

  • Thanks ladies Smile All this knitting talk lately has kept me working on it!

The poem/lullaby is Sleep, Baby Sleep. My mom used to sing it in German...

It's from the book Lullaby Knits- certainly not my own pattern, and I spent lots of time looking back and forth at the pattern!

  • wow, that is gorgeous!
  • That blanket is so ah-mazing!  I was trying to remember who was knitting it.  You've done a great job!

I remember you saying you're going to have to put a back on it.  What kind of yarn did you use to knit the blanket?

Thanks Big Smile I have a marbled blue cotton to go on the back (eventually- hopefully it'll be totally done before the next baby arrives). The yarn is Brown Sheep Company Top of the Lamb Wool, sport weight on size 2 needles. The ladies at the yarn shop said it wears really well (or doesn't wear, I suppose!). Only drawback is that it's permanently mothproofed- good for lasting a long time and handing down, probly not so EF.

  • That is GORGEOUS!  I just started knitting this past Feb, so I'm in awe of you!

Honestly, I started maybe 3 years ago. This blanket isn't terribly difficult, in terms of technique- it's all straight knit/purl. The hard part is the rows where you have to switch back and forth with 4 colors Wink But certainly not impossible- just time consuming. Oh, and I've been working on this for 2 years! (But I've also put it down for months at a time without working on it)

  • That is kind of a mammoth project!  I assume you're tied to a chart the whole time you're knitting it?  It looks great.

Yes and no (tho I keep the chart in my bag anyway). The chart is more important for the sections with words, but there's quite a few rows that are solid colors, and the rows with flowers all repeat (3 blues, 2 pink, etc).
