I won 2 free round trip tickets to anywhere the airline I work for flies so I'm trying to decide between Boston and New York. We've never been to either and would like to bring Holden, so what would you suggest??
I've been to both many many times. They are VERY different places and both great in their owns rights. Personally, I vote for NY. It's just an all around fun city with endless things to do and seriously...nothing beats NYC. I love the energy of the city. Boston is beautiful and historic and fun as well, but in a different way. NYC may be a slightly pricier trip, but not if you plan ahead on hotels, eats, etc.
Whenever I fly to either of those cities, I ALWAYS fly Jet Blue if possible. :-) They have some of the best direct flights to BOS and JFK.
ETA: And oh my gosh, Holden's plumber pants photo? To die for.
Wow, that's a tough call. I'd have to say Boston, just because I love the accents.
For Holden: Just say no to crack!
Unable to even.

This! (except for I've only been to both cities once)
I'm from Boston -- so my vote, Bahstahn.... not as "do the town" as NYC, but lots of fun history, walking tours, Concord (my home town) has Walden Pon, the Alcott House (Little Women), old North Bridge, .... its a 2 hour drive to Cape cod and the beach and Lobstah....

I have to agree with Nykola. And, I would say that Boston might be more fun of a family trip when Holden is old enough to enjoy the history aspect. There are a ton of cool things for kids to do touristy wise in and around Boston (like Plymouth).
NY is going to be a little easier to get around with Holden at the age he is now rather then later.

This. Exactly this. I would do NYC with a child under 3. much more non walking baby friendly as you will likely do a lot of walking, and can use a stroller or baby carrier. I love NYC in the fall and the holiday season. BUt I would want to do Boston with a bit older child that can participate in the trip a little more.

see I would vote Boston b/c you're travelling with a little kid. You could go to the aquarium, the swan boats, walks along the river, and there are easy day trips to the beach, and I think of it just as a much more relaxing getaway.
I think of NYC as a more grown up night life late night place. going to a show on Broadway, eating out at fancy restaurants, etc... Even all the museums I can't imagine trying to keep a toddler occupied during... yeah he'd be in a stroller, but he'd still be bored.
I've been to both and it depends what you want to do.
Manhattan would be stroller heaven. It's just so pedestrian friendly and there's so much to see just walking around (Central Park, Times Square, Ground Zero, Ride the Staten Island Ferry and peak at the Statue of Liberty). I don't know of any tot friendly stuff to do (but I was 25 the last time I was there). Zoo? Aquarium? They MUST have kiddie museums, right?
I agree that Boston would be a lot more fun with an older kid. If we were talking Seattle, Faneuil Hall would be the Pike Place Market. There's always something fun going on around Faneuil Hall but you have to work a bit to find fun stuff in the other neighborhoods. We took a fun Duck tour and saw an electricity demonstration at their science museum. Sadly we weren't able to get tickets to Fenway Park. But all of those things would be great with an older kid.
I would rather stab my eyes with sporks than drive in Boston or Manhattan. Both cities have fantastic subway style transit, but most of the stops are underground. I think The T in Boston is probably less crowded and less complex, but you could hit up the local Bump board to see how those mommies do it. They have buses too, but I never used them.
I think it depends on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend. I think I would choose Boston partly b/c I went to school there and I miss it, but mostly because it is so easy to have fun without spending much money, the public transportation is awesome, it's really walkable, fun for kids.
Also if you've never been to NY and you're interested in doing all the touristy stuff, consider whether you'd want to do it now with Holden or later. Would you want to take H to a Broadway show at this point? ?It seems like there a lot of Manhattan-y things to do which would require either a babysitter or an older child.

I agree. Boston and area is gorgeous in the fall, and it a lot lower key, so it's easier to navigate with a baby. And NYC is fabulous, but it's for grown ups.

Re: Boston or New York?
Lynchie is back!
I vote NY, but I've never been to either. I dream of taking my girls and hitting up NY like the Sex in the City bitches.
I have never been to Boston but NYC is fabulous & I am sure you would have a great time with Holden too as there is so much to do & see there.
What airline do you work for? Congrats on the win
