I'm heading to the Northgate area on Saturday afternoon to stay with my Mom while she's in a class (Hotel Nexus -- anyone know about this place?). She's busy until 5pm Sat and 8-12 Sun so I need recommendations.
Best shopping?
Best evening dining?
Best breakfast joint?
Other things I should know?. I'll have my camera, my credit card and NO KIDS and I never get into Seattle so I want to take full advantage.
TIA!
Re: Northgate shopping/dining?
Best shopping? Well, there's the mall.
Best evening dining? What kind of food do you want? They have a Red Robin and an Azteca at the mall, plus a RAM, Panera, Macaroni Grill, and Staffords. I've been to all but the last. There's also a really good Indian spot just east of the mall on Northgate Way. It's called Masala. Also, in Maple Leaf, there is a really good Chinese place called the Snappy Dragon. That's about 5 minutes drive east of the mall on Northgate way and a right on Roosevelt (I think), then it's on the right hand side at about 88th or 90th.
Best breakfast joint? I can't think of any good breakfast spots by Northgate. The closest thing I can think of near Northgate is Cyndi's on 105th and Aurora.
Unable to even.

Thanks CG -- I'm off to look at the mall site to see what stores are there.
I'm so frickin' excited to shop and eat and sleep without babies. I might go to Mommy hell for saying that but I so looking foward to adult time!
You're welcome!
I don't know if it will show up on the mall website, but just north of the mall is a complex with a Ross and a Target. The Target is awesome. I will drive from Everett to go to that Target even though there are two between me and there.
Unable to even.

The Target is 2 floors and has a cart escalator! It's the coolest damn thing. When I first told OOT people about it, they wanted to see it for themselves on their next visit!

Sweet -- my Mom loves Target and they don't have one where she lives so that will be a definate destination.
They have a two-story Target in Portland too and I love that thing!
IHHM's restaurant is across the street from Snappy Dragon, I'm sure it's fablous (Don't recall the name now, Roosevelt Ale House maybe)
If you like to boutique, head over to 85th in PHinney Ridge. There are cute kids and consingment stores. There is a nice library there too.
Greenlake is right down the road if you want to people watch. Green Lake Bar and Grill is another one of our favorites. Whole foods has amazing breakfast in their deli, it's on 65th and Roosevelt. There are a few cute shops around Whole Foods as well if you grab a coffee and stroll for a bit.
You aren't too far from Freemont either, (although if there is a UW game, traffic will be a nightmare)
The Hotel Nexus is an old Ramada I think. It's fine. I think it's loud if you stay there but if she's just going to be using conference facilities, it's probably OK.
I used to live around there and miss it so. There is a lot to do and see but on game days traffic can be a bit of a wreck. Enjoy your day out, sounds like a blast!
There's Costume and Display just down the road from the Mall. Halloween costumes for you and the kids?? And just past that is Kym's Kiddie Shack, a consignment store with toys galore!!
Have fun and spend lots of $$, you deserve it.

The Northgate Target is under renovation right now so things are a bit of a mess in there, just to warn you.
If you head north on Roosevelt from N-gate you can go to Kim's Kiddie Korner (or something like that...) It's a new & consignment kid's store. It's packed solid with stuff, but sometimes there are some great finds there.
If you sew/knit, Pacific Fabrics is on Northgate Way just before you get to Roosevelt. Lots of cool fabrics and yarns - a step up from JoAnn's for sure. There's a TJ Maxx in the same complex, and it's a pretty nice one. I often find good stuff there.
I would skip the Ross by Target, to me it always seems dirty, disorganized, and always has a huge line at the checkout. I've often decided not to buy anything there when I get to the checkout and see how long the line is. Hire someone, already!
?
My favorite lunch at Northgate is Chipotle, so cheap and good. For Indian, even better than Masala is Mehak, IMO. It's on Roosevelt at about 125th. A total hole in the wall, but amazing food and the hostess/waitress/cook/grandma is so sweet. The Naan is out of this world.
The Gene Juarez school is just a few blocks east of the mall and I've heard it's a great place to get a deal on salon services. You might want to call ahead and see what the deal is there.
?There are a couple of independent boutique-y stores in the mall itself and they often have fun, affordable stuff in them. Worth stopping into.
Have fun!!?
DSW for shoes at the mall, display and costume is fun for halloween stuff
Foodwise, if you like Spicy, try Bick's at 107th and Greenwood
Cyndy's is probably your best bet for breakfast as a previous poster mentioned, not much around there.
Not sure if you're looking for fancy, but if you're not, Tubs Subs, on Lake City Way (2 miles from the mall) has AWESOME sub sandwiches.

I really like the TJ Maxx just east of the Mall. I've found some good bargains there.
Have fun!
Oh, one more thing, if your looking for breakfast/brunch on Saturday/Sunday, I would go a little further than Cyndi's for better food. There's a mexican restaurant at 145th and Greenwood, called Casa Azul that does a nice brunch with both american and mexican fare. It's a nice little place with a good menu and there's never a wait (my least favorite thing about brunch.)
Also if you're interested in more kid consignment stuff, head west on Northgate way, it turns into 105th. Go across Aurora and across Greenwood, and it turns into Holman Road. Right after it turns into Holman Road there's a great children's consignment store called Childish Things. Definitely worth stopping in.?
Funny! I used to live in that neighborhood too. Ditto everyone else about Target, Masala, Pacific Fabrics and the antiques in Greenwood.
I just wanted to add that the the Northgate Transit Center is just south of the mall next to the new condo building/movie theater. The # 41 comes every 15 minutes or something and zips downtown on the freeway. So then you have access to Westlake and Pacific Place for even more shopping.
