I know... what's up with that. I think Olivia is great, but Alivia is a ridiculous spelling. My computer hates it, too, apparently.

  • Alivia looks ridiculous.

I've also seen just Livia which seems a little off too.

From a teacher's perspective, stick to the normal spellig to help out your kid not having to explain their name!

    agreed.

  • Alivia makes me either think:

    a) It's pronounced "A-LIVE-ia"

    b) of Activia yogurt

    Olivia all the way!

I so also like just Livia, but it's an old, classic name.

Alivia makes me sort of think of Saliva.

  • Alivia looks ridiculous.
  • Alivia = I really like the name Olivia but don't want my child to have the same name as everyone else so I'll just change one letter.  NMS.
  • I've never seen Olivia spelled Alivia.  I like it being spelled Olivia better.

  • I have to disagree with everyone on this one. I love Alivia, where I live people pronounce Olivia like Oh-livia not Ah-livia. If you don't like the Oh sound, its a nice alternative. Plus my best friend just had a baby Alivia and she's really cute. But you will have to tell people Alivia with an A I suppose.

  • Olivia- don't make your child spell her name everytime she says it.

  • Olivia

To be perfectly honest, when I first saw the name Alivia on some list somewhere else, my initial reaction was that some really uneducated idiot didn't know how to spell! But I have seen it a few times since then, and I'm totally not saying that's what I think of anyone who likes it.. it was just my first reaction to seeing that name.

  • Olivia is a classic name. Alivia just makes the parents look like they don't know how to spell.

  • I know someone who named their baby Elivia.

    Alivia

    Elivia

    Olivia

What about Ilivia or Uhlivia? Just to get all the vowels in there.

  • Olivia, definately.  Alivia just looks like you're trying too hard.  If you want a name that is different, don't pick one that is so trendy.  This is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Agreed. The name Olivia just drives me nuts, and Alivia is just a sad attempt to be original.

It seems  like there should be no reason to discuss the name Olivia it at all. Obviously people like it because its number one. So people that post "should I name my baby _______ or Olivia?" really just need to ask themselves "do I want my kid to have the same name as everyone else or not?"

  • I have a friend from work who named her DD Alivia.  She decided on that spelling because she didn't want her DD's name pronounced with a long O sound at the beginning.  Now, when I say Olivia I don't make it a point to say it with the long O but apparently she asked a TON of people and most said it that way, so she went with the A.

For the most part it's just a spelling, but I totally prefer the O to the A.

She must have been ahead of her time...her DD is already 2 1/2  :)
