Pregnant after a Loss

question about NT Scan

This is probably a ridiculous question, but my doctor hasn't offered for me to get an NT Scan, wasn't sure if this was something I had to ask for or if this was something everyone gets...I feel like I am the only one who is not getting one Embarrassed

TIA!

Re: question about NT Scan

  • I was offered a NT Scan but I decided not to do it.  I've heard that some dr's don't offer it, but you can always ask your Dr to see what they say.

  • Not everyone is offerred a NT scan. You are generally only offerred one if you are considered high risk or have advanced maternal age.  If you want one, ask your doctor because your insurance may cover it even if you aren't high risk.  You need to do them between 11 and 13 weeks so make sure to ask soon.

  • It is def'n not standard. In fact, many insurance plans will not cover it.

I did have it done but I am AMA with a history of 3 m/c.  One of the m/c was due to a chromosomal issue.

If you want it, speak to your doctor ASAP.  But I would research it a bit and be sure you want the information you will receive.

  • I skipped it.  Neither me or my doc thought it was necessary, and my insurance only covers half.

  • My OB offered it, but said it was completely optional of course. If you're interested in having one, I would go ahead and call the Dr now to let him know. My Dr had me do the bw at 10 weeks and the scan at 13 weeks.

  • I was offered one because of my age and because we did ivf. My insurance only covers 80% of the scan but we still had it down anyways. Mine was done at 13 wks.
