2. You shouldn't get sore nipples if you latch LO properly. BFing isn't supposed to hurt. If it does you should see your Lactation consultant for help.
I use Medela's Lanolin ointment. It's not as thick as some of the others so it's easier to smooth on. If you don't want to use an ointment maybe cool compresses?

As far as sore nipples, mine were awful for a loooong time - it got better around 5-6 weeks. It helped to soak them in warm bowls of water, and sometimes I would use an ice pack before he latched to "numb" the area a bit. But nothing really helped as much as time.

This is not true. I had my latch checked and was told it was "textbook" yet my nips still hurt for about 4 weeks.
Sore Nipples... get breast shells. They are like half sphere hard plastic things that you put over your nipples so nothing rubs on them. I used them for the first 2 weeks and never had sore nipples. Also, make sure LO is latching on properly... they should take most of your nipple into their mouth when eating, not just the tip. If it hurts or they don't open their mouth wide enough, make them relatch (stick your finger into their mouth to break the seal) otherwise you will hurt your nipple more.

3. It was over 5 weeks for me.
BFing hurt like hell for me for a good month or so, and the LC told me we had a good latch. Some people's nipples are just more sensitive than others. Definitely try the Lansinoh that helped me a ton! Make sure you put that on before showering too because it helps them not to dry out with the warm water!
I bled for 8 weeks. It sucked, hope you don't have the same! GL!
Snuggling after a nap!
