Re: dropping swaddle cold turkey

  • We did and it was totally fine. He always falls asleep on me because we have to hold him upright 20 mins after feeding due to reflux. I just held him unswaddled one night isntead of swaddled and laid him down like that and he slept great. Hasn't been swaddled once since then (although I may tro to go back to swaddling for naps soon if he doesn't start napping better).

ETA: He didn't used to nap with the swaddle, he's never been swaddled for naps, so that's not why he's having the nap issues...I just think it might be necessary to calm him.

  • I did it cold turkey around 2 months with no problems.
  • I also stopped swaddling cold turkey when DD started rolling over at 10 weeks. When swaddled,  she would SSTN 9:30-5:30, go back to sleep after nursing and sleep again until 8am. She now wakes up 2-3 times a night and is up for the day at 6:30. :(  It's stayed that way since then.

  • We stopped this past week because he was breaking the swaddle no matter how tight it was.  His sleeping patterns haven't changed (he wasn't STTN anyway).
