Collin HATES his infant carseat, so I think the time has come to order him a bigger one. I am hoping to do it this weekend so I will have it in time to take to Florida. It may make the plane right a lot easier for both of us.
I am leaning toward a Britax, but I have also heard good things about the Evenflo Triumph ... I would appreciate any and all suggestions for a brand/style and why you like it.
Re: Recommend your convertible carseat ...
We just got the Britax Roundabout 50. I love them. They are extremely easy to install. I installed them in less then a minute with a very snug fit. Unlike the infant seats which I could never install properly and I would be wrestling with for 20 minutes. I couldn't decide between the Marathon and Roundabout because of the weight limits. Ultimately I decided on the Roundabout 50 because it was in the middle as far as weight goes. I kept reading that the 65lb weight limit on the Marathon was overkill and your child would outgrow it in height before they would ever reach the weight limit, but the 40lb limit worried me with the Roundabout.
The biggest difference I found was the Marathon has the HUGS system which is an extra safety feature on the shoulder harness. I actually put my son in one and didn't like that feature....it covered his entire chest and went under his chin and I personally think it would have been a pain. Would probably be great for older children. In the end I still felt Britax was safe without the HUGS feature.
They are very sturdy seats and the cover is a very soft material. The look comfortable, and my boys seem to really like them. They also hated their infant seats and would cry a lot when we put them in them. Now they seem really happy when we put them in the car. They are sitting up a bit more and just overall look more comfortable.
So far, I have no complaints! They seem like great seats.
Oh, I ordered them from www.hipmonkey.com and got a really good price.
Good luck!
Go to BRU and try them out in your car. The Britax and the Evenflo are definitely shaped differently. The Evenflo just was a better fit in our car. And we love it. I love that it doesn't have slots for the shoulders so it gets a good fit at the shoulders all the time wihtout having to guess which slots you need. I like the cranks for tightening even though rear facing they can sometimes be smashed into the seat back making them a little tough to access. I figured it out and it works great. It's cushy and comfy seeming and like all of the good car seats out there it's super easy to install.
I will say that both of those car seats that you're considering are WIDE. Which makes them hard to bring on the plane IMO. We bought a narrower cheap Evenflo for travelling.
My friend has kids who are small, and even her kids grew out of the length of the Roundabout well before they could get out of a car seat. So if you do get the Britax, I'd get the Marathon or higher.
I have a boulevard in my car and DH has a Marathon - she likes both but they're both big.
Check out this thread for some good reviews too...

another vote for the evenflo! having to buy 4 britx was out of the question for us!! they are HUGE/wide and tony will NOT lug them through an airport ever again....
hey Jill what was the one you got for travel? I would rather not RENT from the car place (unless someone on here convinces me they are safe and not disgusting... but they are also 60 each to rent... which is close to the price of buying.... and we are getting 3 seats so we have room, but it would be neat to be able to stick a twink in a carseat on the plane)
ugh... traveling with 2 16 month olds... shoot me now. xanax please.
The only Easter Bunny I can get behind.

We got this one for travel:

In that hideous color even. I think it used to be around $55.
It's several inches narrower than the other ones. I will say that it has some design flaws - the strap gets stuck in the back sometimes and you have to loosen it and YANK it to get it right. But for the price, it's fine. And way better for travelling.
If you do want to travel with convertible seats - get a bag so you can check it. If you think you want to bring it on the plane, get something that makes it easy to carry - a bag with wheels, or there are several contraptions out there - a back pack thing (that is GREAT), or a wheelie thing that's like a luggage cart and you can use it to let the kid ride on too...
