2nd Trimester

colace?

Did anyone take colace to help with constipation? If so, how long did it take to work? I haven't gone in four days and am desperate for relief! I know I'm 'technically' still in first tri (one more day!), but I figured the 6 weekers wouldn't be as much of a help :)

Re: colace?

  • I did and it helped!  It did take about 42 hours to kick in though.  Also take the maximum dose it allows you to or it doesn't work at all....at least that was my experience.

  • Yep, I live on the stuff.  It usually takes about 12 hours to kick in for me.

  • It does work, but takes a couple days of taking the max amt.  Also, fiber supplements help a LOT.  I got the fiber choice w/ calcium chewy tablets and they work WONDERS and they give me added calcium.. and well, they taste like candy ;)

  • I take one a day.  If I really want to have a BM I drink a cup of coffee.

  • I take them as needed and never the full dose (hello, other problem!)

I've noticed that fiber (melon) and a daily mug of hot (like for tea) water with lemon and honey also does the trick to keep things moving nicely.

    Feel better!

  • Colace/Stool softener is wonderful! I also take Metamucil or MOM (milk of magnesia) at bedtime if needed. the MOM does take overnight to work but man it really cleans you out! Take the maximum dose though!
  • It's only a stool softener, not a laxative so it doesn't quite work with speed, just comfort. My solution-colace plus a fibre one bar and a chaser of activia= total sh!t bomb. You will seriously f*ck up your toilet with this concoction.
  • I took it for four days straight and it worked. I told my doctor what I did and she was pretty upset that I didn't try natural methods first- fruits, lots of water, etc. Then she switched me to a prenatal vitamin that has a stool softener in it- Prenexa is the name of the vitamin. I haven't had a problem since...

  • Colace did not work for me at all-I used Miralax and loved it!!! I am now taking it every other day and it's working!
  • Colace is a stool softener not a laxative or fiber supplement. Drink lots of water when you take it. You could take some milk of magnesia if you want immediate relief.
