Ladies with T1 diabetes,
I have been told that it is important to have your A1C in good range for 3 months prior to TTC. I was just wondering exactly how important this is? For example, if I were Not TTC and got pregnant with high A1C, would it not be enough to get/keep it under control during the pregnancy? How much does that 3 months prior A1C effect the baby/pregnancy? Any knowledge, advice, personal stories would be appreciated Thanks ladies!

My younger sister is diabetic, but unluckily I know very little about it and TTC. You might want to try asking this over on the high risk board too. Good luck!

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Hi there -
Your A1C should be stable and at a healthy level before and of course during ttc. I know one reason is b/c you won't want to be starting new treatments while TTC, as many of them can effect your hormone levels. If you can't get it below... 9 for instance... your dr. would likely initiate treatment to get it more controlled.
GL!
Impossible is definitely an appropriate word! I have been diabetic for 9 years and the best it has ever been is 7.6. I'm usually in the 8.5 range. I had it checked a few weeks ago and it was 8.6.
That was the first place I put this and I posted it at 8 something this morning and still no response lol. You guys are definitely more helpful
I have had type 1 diabetes for 4 years. I would not say that 5 (well maybe 5.0) is impossible. My lowest A1C ever was 5.9. It is very important to have your A1C's under control before ttc. My endo likes me to keep my A1C's under 7.0 (whether ttc or not). Being diabetic makes you high risk, if your blood sugar isn't controlled well, it can put you at an even higher risk for complications. High blood sugars can also lead to having a bigger baby.
I am a type 1 and I got pregnant with DS at about a 7 - A1C. My endo would have liked me to be at 6. I got the insulin pump and my A1C was 5 during pregnancy and it is not impossible. It is difficult and yes a lot of work but not impossible. PM me with any questions and I will be happy to help if I can.
