2nd Trimester

"What's your birth plan?"

I love when people ask me this question. To be honest, I'm really not even thinking about it yet. So I just tell them "Quick and painless".  I harbor no fantasy about labor, or c-sections, etc. Any way they want to get the baby out is fine with me. I'll probably have more of an opinion later on. In my head, it's still too early. I've got other things to worry about for now.Smile

Re: "What's your birth plan?"

  • - In hospital

    - meds only given if I ask for them (I would like to go med free if I can)

    - DH will be at my head (he is freaked out about watching the baby come out)

    - I want my baby put to my chest as soon as he comes out/ and I would like to breastfeed as soon as I can

    - If possible I don't want to cut the cord until it stops pulsating (have not spoken to OB about this yet)

  • To get max allowable drugs and go with the flow.  I don't want to have a concrete plan only to get bent out of shape when things don't start all falling in place.  The baby doesn't care about any plan and will do whatever s/he wants anyway.  That's why I'm just planning on the drugs for me.

This is a plan I can run with, LOL!  I feel the exact same way.

Oh, Hell yes. This is the only thing that I know I do want. I don't need my husband to pass out mid-delivery.

This exactly except the cutting the cord part.

  • I'm surprised that people ask you that. It seems like more info than anyone outside your delivery room really needs.

I want pretty much the full natural birth experience, so no meds, hep lock, moving around, eating and drinking, immediate BFing, etc. We are interviewing a doula this weekend she's going to help us write a birth plan.

Oh, you'd be suprised what people have asked me. "Was this planned?" or "Are you happy about this?" right down to "If it's a boy, will you have him circumsized?"

In all fairness, I work with all women. We tend to overshare on our unit.

  • Now that I've been reading up more on the labor process and protocol, I want to aim to go as natural as possible. I don't like the idea of being hooked up to monitors, IV's, catheter, etc that comes with an epidural (which I never thought about before.) I want to be able to walk around, get in the tub if I need, etc. But we'll see when I'm there!
  • I asked my OB if they would knock me out for it.  She laughed and said, no, we like you to be conscious.

  • I'm kinda of from the middle of nowhere, so if anyone mentions a birth plan, it's usually me. I think I am so different from so many people around here. I do things more "city" than other people. I do plan to have one though. Some of my preferences right now are the following:

    -epidural

-avoid a c-section as long as it is 100% safe for baby

-DH cutting the cord (if I can get him to)

-baby place on chest if no complications

    -no formula, breastfeeding asap

-cord blood is to be donated, if LO is not delivered over the weekend

-baby will be in our room and one of us should be present for exams

-DH and myself in delivery room, mommy outside in case something goes wrong

  • I want to be left alone

Allowed to walk freely and labor in a tub

    No IV or monitoring

    Don't offer me pain meds

Baby comes directly to me.  As little separation as possible.

  • My plan is to go as natural as possible. We're also going to be looking into a doula. No epidural unless absolutely necessary. I don't want to be induced. I don't want a c-section.

That said, I know it's just a plan and plans change so obviously I have to roll with it. But this is my ideal situation.

BTW, what's the deal with the pulsating umbilical cord? I've never heard about that before...

  • i just read somewhere that if you wait even 2 minutes to cut the cord it will somehow let the baby get a ton more iron. something good with iron. i want that sucker gone asap. it's freaky!
