WDYT of this name

Kailub for a girl.

This is a coworker of mine. I can't remember the story behind her name, but I think it had something to do with her mom thinking she was a boy and naming him Caleb.  Then she was a girl and she changed the spelling because she still liked the name.  I've always thought it was a little odd, but she is Kailub, so now it is normal to me.

Just wondering what y'all thought of it!

Re: WDYT of this name

  • I don't see the problem with "Caleb"... some people like to give boys' names to girls.  But I am always irked when I see a name that is so crazily spelled.  The poor kid is going to have people butchering that name its whole life, because people will likely want to spell it "Caleb" on paperwork, etc.

  • Honestly.

I see Caleb as a very masculine name. I cant see it on a girl but I am not a fan of boy names on girls to begin with.

To add fuel to the fire, this spelling is horrible. I didnt even know HOW to pronounce it at first.

There are SO many beautiful girl names out there. Why not use one of those?

  • She's not a kid.  She's 25.  I don't think she minds her name that much.  However, for a long time, I thought her name was Kaelin.  I finally had to ask her to spell it for me one day because I thought I kept hearing her wrong when she said Kailub.

She recenly had a baby and named her DD a perfectly normal name.  Brenna Renay (family name and family spelling....apparently her family likes to spell things oddly, but she didn't carry on the tradition with Brenna!).

  • Incredibly bizarre.  It would make me think (1) that the parents had really wanted a son and (2) that the parents were illiterate.

This. It's AWFUL with the "ub" at the end.

  • I just can't get past the spelling of the name.
  • That's one of the worst spellings I've ever seen. ?Uggggly.

  • Wow, HATE it.  NoNo
  • I think it's awful. Changing a spelling does not feminize a name IMO.

  • You mean someone actually hired her after seeing Kailub on her resume???  Stick out tongue
  • So she CHANGED the spelling to Kailub? Wow. Bad.

    Okay folks: two lessons.

    1) Boy's need boy names, girls need girls names. There IS some middle ground for swanky unisex names, but naming your kid something that is reserved for the other gender is uncool. "I am so crazy about the name Caleb that my little girl will just have to deal with it" is not the way to dignify your kid.

    2) Spelling counts. People never come off as clever as they think when they pull this. Again, it goes back to dignity.

  • I honestly think that spelling is awful....and I agree that Caleb in my opinion is a boy's name.
  • I think the "ub" ending is the worst part to me. That is so ugly. :( I may be wrong, but I can't think of a single pretty name (or word even) with that letter combination in it. Obviously, the girl has not let the name bother her or hold her down, so props to her. :)
