Would fly alone w/ 2 kids?

I was talking about this at playgroup today.  DH and I were thinking of me flying to visit my family before baby is born instead of our normal summer trip - 20 hour drive w/ a 1-2 mo old.

One friend thought like me, that it would be fine.  The other thought it would be a nightmere to attempt.

Re: Would fly alone w/ 2 kids?

  • I have flown with my two at least 8 times.  Very doable even with two toddlers.

Did you take a stroller?  I was thinking of having the girls walk instead of gate checking a stroller (we missed a connection last time we flew because it took them so long to get them).

  • I just flew to Disney with dd and she was soo good. She is 3 and sat and read her few books that we brought so I def could see me travel with 2 kids. I would gate check your stroller so that you can have it to get around the airport in and in case you have to go to the bathroom you have something to put the kids into.

I always do and take a double.  DD gets tried esp on the leg home and doesn't want to walk.  I also gate check the stroller but have never missed a flight.

LOL!  They'd be peeing in the stall with me - wouldn't they?  DD1 won't sit, DD2 would fight it.  Hence the reason I am selling my double stroller.

  • I flew with my oldest two last December when they had just turned 3 and 1.  And I was 16 weeks pg.  It was a piece of cake.  Except for the part where Evan peed all over the tiny bathroom on the plane because he wasn't tall enough for the toilet (and I couldn't pick him up because I was holding Bennett), it really wasn't a big deal at all.  We had a direct flight, though, and I definitely brought our sit 'n stand.  It would take me forever to get through an airport if I had to let those two monkeys walk the whole way.

  • At this moment in time? Hellzno.
  • Definitely.  But I fly a lot with the girls.  We have it down to a science.  It's not easy and it's totally exhausting for me.  But we do ok and all survive it.  And especially if you're going to see family who can help you when you get there.  The key it to pack as light as possible and check as much as possible at the ticket counter.  Yes, it costs you more, but then you have an easier time trying to carry what you need and keep track of kids.  We check everything at the counter including carseats and whatnot.  I do usually keep a stroller with me and gate check it just to have somewhere to put DD#2 or both girls if possible to get through the airport and just to keep them in one place when needed.  Other than that, I have one giant carry-on with everything from diapers to toys to DVD plays in a duffle (that's barely within the limits for carry-on).  Lately the girls have wanted their own backpacks so they "carry" their loveys, blankets and assorted light stff..
  • My kids are awesome on planes, but I still would not attempt it.  That being said it depends on how long the flight is.  I have only flown 5+ hours, so maybe if it were a shorter trip I would be okay with it.
