need lots of prayers for baby chase

This is a cut and paste of what is going on with baby Chase! Please say some prayers for her tonight!

Chase had her surgery a week ago Monday to correct her hiatal hernia (stomach, reflux, etc.) and malrotated intestine, and also to place a G tube (gastric feeding tube which goes into her stomach through her abdomen) to replace her NG tube (feeding tube that goes in through the nose). Immediately following the surgery all was good, the digestive system started waking up, and she seemed to be recovering. Just two or three days ago things started trending the wrong direction and she was beginning not to tolerate feeds, was continuing to loose weight, was not sleeping, and just generally was not a happy little baby. As a result, this morning they intubated her again and placed a central line (glorified IV) so they could better meet her nutritional requirements until she can totally handle her feeds again.

So that's kind of where things are at. The goal is for her to be able to tolerate her feeds again and to get her on a schedule so we can bring her home and let her grow more before her future heart surgeries. We split time at the Children's 24/7 - trying to squeeze in time with Reese (her 18 mo old sister), who has suffered a bunch through this, but is a little trooper.

Remind me again what happened to her - was she a super preemie?

I can't even imagine what they're going through. I remember how frantic I was when Ben had an ear infection at 2 months old. I can't imagine having a child who was *really* sick.

I am saying my prayers for you! I am actually an RN at Childrens and work on the floor that cares for babies like this. I can assure you she will receive the best care.

Chase was born with a major heart defect as well as her stomach on the wrong side of her body and her intestine going through her stomach. She wasn't given a very good chance of surviving birth let alone surviving through severe cardiac arrest and suffering a stroke. She was only 3 weeks premature and is now 5.5 months old and is a true miracle baby!

Hang in there baby Chase and Big Sister Reese. She sounds like a little fighter. Childrens is an awesome place. She is in the best hands there.

Wow Tiff she must be a little fighter! My 2 nephews were born with tumors in their eyes & had to have chemo from 6 weeks old (they are 5 & 7 now). They are absolutely fine now & you would never know looking ata them, but boy it was tough going there for awhile to watch them in & out of hospitals so I know how you must feel.
