Have you ever heard of swapping toys with other moms for a little bit? Just so the kids would have something different to play with for a week or two.
If a friend approached you to see if you were interested in doing something like this, would you?
Here's why I ask: I can think of about a hundred other toys I would like the children that I watch to experience, but I don't have the funds to buy them all. In my dreams... Anyway, I thought if I talked to some other moms I know to see if they would want to switch toys that were able to be cleaned (that's a big one to germ-freak-me) it would allow the kids I watch to experience more new things than I can afford...
Re: Weird Idea? Toy swap?
I think it's a good idea. It's economical to boot. I would consider it depending on the toy. Unfortunately kids are pretty rough on toys so I would be bummed if an expensive toy got ruined. Would you split costs of toys? What happens if someone's toy gets destroyed (dog chews it, gets lost)?
I rotate K's toys. She has one set for a few weeks and then they get put away and the other group comes out. It keeps things fresh for her and keeps from having our family room totally taken over (sort of). Each group has toys she really loves.
I would definitely not if it was a temporary thing and would not do it if it was someone I see rarely, because of the cost of replacing a toy that could be lost or broken too.
Now if it were a big get together once or twice a year where for example we all bring toys and switch with other nesties that would be nice. But I would only do a permanent one.
Good luck though.
