I gave my daycare lady (my cousin-inhome daycare) a list of foods that we have given DD and are approved.
I get a slip everyday telling me what/how much she eats during the day. The other day, I saw that DD had cheerios. Yesterday she had Kix. These are just snacks, but I have never given them to DD before(I thought cheerios might be too hard, and Kix seem too sugary).
But then today I saw that DD had 3 saltine crackers. Would you give your 8.5 mo old saltines? Would you complain to daycare?
I love that DD's daycare is a family member, but it also makes these conversations awkward.
Re: Saltine crackers?
Logan's daycare gave him saltines when he was a baby. It didn't really bother me too too much. They are kind of wasted calories but crackers are a pretty typical kid friendly food. Believe me, years in preschool and my kids have seen their fair share of crackers. If you don't want her to have them, just say so.
Cheerios I wouldn't even bat an eye at. I have had parents give my kids fruit loops and coco puffs... things I would NEVER give my kids but my theory is as long as it isn't all the time its fine. (Granted, my kids are older but this whole idea of other people feeding your kid food never goes away.)
Kix are not too bad in the sugar content actually.
But I would be pissed if she's giving foods you haven't given yet. Like if you haven't given wheat yet, and she's giving crackers with wheat flour.
I'm sure I was doing cheerios type cereal at 8.5 months. It's good for her to start eating food she can pick up. So if that works for her, great.
But I woudl talk to your cousin about the "new foods" issues and make sure she's sticking to your list of ingredients at least.
It would irritate me that she gave Makenna something I didn't approve of first. But, I think both Cheerios and Saltines are ok for an 8.5mo old. When our daycare asked if Ryan could have table food, I said yes - nothing bigger than my pinky nail, no honey, nuts or dairy. I think most daycare providers know all this but it's always a good thing to remind them.
Isn't it crazy how big the kids are now? It seems just like yesterday we had these teeny babies we were showing off at Gage's 1st birthday party.
