DD wants an earlier bedtime but doesnt STTN

Her bedtime was 930 and she'd sleep until 5. These past few nights she has wanted an earlier bedtime (730-800) but then wakes at midnight, 2, 4, and 7. Any ideas to get her to sleep longer? We aren't doing anything different but maybe she's napping too much? She usually sleeps at 9am, 11am, 130, 330, and last nap around 545-630.

  • I don't have any advice because my LO does the same thing.  He takes naps every 2-3 hours and doesn't go down for bed until 10 or 11.  He just fell asleep around 7:30, but I know he will be awake to eat and play around 9.  That is fine with me because he will go to bed at 11 and then he sleeps until 9 am.  : )  Until I go back to work, that is about the hours that I sleep too, so it works out well for us!

  • No help but interested in seeing responses as my DD doesn't nap at all during the day goes to bed at 7:30 wakes at 1:30 and is up for good at 5:30.
  • Tillie did the same thing for a while.  It was beyond annoying.  Unfortunately, we couldn't figure out how to change it and eventually she started sleeping better again.

Personally, I would just go with her flow...it will work itself out eventually.

  • sounds like needing more sleep, but also needing more food due to growth spurts... don't ya just LOVE these little balls of contradiction?
  • It doesn't happen all at once. You have to learn patience. You know?

DS's pattern was this (as best as I can remember)

    6 weeks: 6pm to 1a to 5a to 7a

    8 weeks: 6pm to 2a to 5a to 7a

    2.5 months: 6pm to 5a to 7a

    3 months to current: 6pm to 7a

YES, it is a pain when you do an early bedtime because you guarantee yourself, in the beginning, another over-night feeding FOR AWHILE. But they will work it out, especially as you start to increase their bottles at other feedings. As their tummy gets bigger they will be able to take more and can start going longer at night.

    Be patient!

  • We actually tried an earlier bedtime because he was tired at 6:00 but all that did was make him wake like 8 times!  Do we started giving him a 25-30 m inute cat nap around 6:00 and put him to bed at 8:30 and now he sleeps to 4:30 and seems happier.  I think you just have to find what works for your baby.
  • Have you tried a dream feeding?  DH gives LO a bottle before he goes to bed around 11.  He doesn't turn on lights, change her, or really even burp her--just gives her a bottle and she never opens her eyes.

This made her stop waking up at 102.

This is what we're doing.  Her sleep schedule and food schedule is all decided by her.  I am letting her lead the way.
