3rd Trimester

This most likely sounds or is a dumb question but...

today at my OB appt my doctor told me that I am measuring a "week ahead".  I thought that I was at 30 weeks, but now she says  that I'm 31 weeks.

In the midst of all the other questions that I have for her, I forgot to ask her what does it mean that I am "measuring ahead".

So what does that mean? Does that mean I get a new due date?

*shrugs shoulders*Embarrassed

  • no!! they will not change your due date by next week the baby could be on track again.Your due date is a round about not exact date.

  • If shes talking about the fundal height measument (were she takes the tape measurer and measures from your pubic bone to top of uterus) no. It can be affected by many things.

I think the only thing that would change your due date is if the baby is measuring ahead but even then they would have noticed that much earlier like between 4-10 weeks... At this point babies have pretty individual sizes.

  • Also, just because you're fundal height (I think this is what you're saying is measuring ahead) is larger than average at this stage, doesnt mean they'll change anything. I was measuring 42 weeks when I was 33 weeks. This can be affected by the way the baby is sitting, how much fluid there is, and your general body/uterus shape. So it will not result in a due date change, it's just a measurement to see that every few weeks it's going up (ie that the baby is growing).

    Oh. Okay. Cool. Thanks!Smile

  • Your due date wont change, especially this late in your pregnancy. Like others have said many things can make the measurement off. Even for an u/s measurement, you may measure ahead but they wont change it. I have been measuring 4 weeks ahead for a long time via tape measure and 3 weeks ahead via u/s. My due date will not change and I know my date of ovulation. Hes just either bigger or the measurement is off :)
