WAH moms

Would you recomend it?  I'm considering asking for a PT work at home policy 1-because I despise some of my co workers and 2-the limited times I've worked from home I have made great use of the "getting ready" time and the commute time and think I'd be a happier mom with that time back.

I'd keep DS in daycare, but be able to pick him up 45-90 minutes earlier depending on traffic, and I'd get some time with him in the morning instead of rushing out the door with barely a good bye kiss.

Do you get bored? How do you stay motived to work and not do laundry, dishes, watch Oprah?  Do you think you are more productive or less productive than if/when you worked in the office?

  • When I worked before Ben came along, I worked from home 1-2 days a week.  I got so much more done on those days, despite the fact that I still did laundry and (shhh) watched Oprah.

I think if you're doing PT at home and PT in the office, that would be a good compromise between being alone and having some people around to have lunch with, bounce ideas off of, etc...

  • I get a lot done. It helps that I have pretty strict deadlines, so I can't mess around as much as I did when I worked in an office. I also don't have to deal with anyone except my boss. That is nice because there aren't a lot of people taking up my time with bs.

This is a great option for me because I get to stay home and take care of my little man, and I also get to see my husband. (He works nights). I couldn't do it any other way right now. When Max is two, I will put him in daycare a couple days a week, to socialize him. On these days, I hope to be able to work a few more hours. HTH!
