Breastpump- call your insurance

My insurance covers 90% of my breast pump and I didn't call until today.  After I already bought my own :(  call and check to see if it's covered, you never know!

Re: Breastpump- call your insurance

  • can you return yours? I bought mine, but it is still un-opened

  • Just curious.....Who do you go thru?  We're Anthem Blue PPO.  I'm crossing my fingers that you are too!!!
  • My husband opened it and pranced around the house with it :(
  • I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of CA, also a PPO.  CALL! :)

At the time I found it hilarious.  Now, not so much... well, still hilarious.  In an ironic sort of way :P

  • I checked mine; it was a no go.  :(  Did you have to get a preauthorization to get yours?  If so, you could buy another one with the 90% off and sell it on craigslist or ebay.
  • Aetna PPO=nogo.  Boo!

  • I'm also Anthem.  You have to have a doctor's prescription for them to cover it so make sure you talk to your doc!
  • I could get a manual pump with our Anthem PPO plan, and it has to be medically necessary! oh well, I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

I have Anthem too, and they don't cover pumps, sadly.  Hope your policy is different from mine!

  • If they cover it, wouldn't they reimburse with a receipt?

I have Anthem PPO too, but when I called months ago the person I talked to had no idea what I was talking about and said they don't cover it. How did you ask them about it?

  • I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, PPO. My pump was covered 100% with a prescription, but I did not have to have a medical reason. According to the insurance co, their policy changed April 2009 so I could get one at anytime during my pregnancy without a reason.

PS The insurance company was GREAT to deal with, but the pharmacy was HORRIBLE. The gave me a very hard time, and submitted my claim to insurance fraud because they just had never heard of insurance companys covering breast pumps.

  • We have Keystone Healthplan East (a division of Blue Cross Blue Sheild) and I get reimbursed $50 of a Breastpump, $50 of a sibling or childbirth class and $100 to a lactation consultant. I just have to submit reciepts after the birth.

It has less to do with the insurance company and more to do with the specific plan your employer chose.

I have heard of some insurances even paying a portion of infant seats so it is worth checking out!

(oh and mine also pays up to $200 for a weight loss program for after baby! They call the programs 'health connections' or something like that. The baby program is baby blueprints.)
