Does anyone else find it completely disturbing that Mackenzie Phillips is talking about her 10 year-long incestuous relationship with her dad, which started when she was 19?? I'm sorry if that is something she truly experienced, but this isn?t about raising awareness for abused kids?she?s pimping out her new book! THAT is gross!
Re: Controversial and Possibly Flame Worthy But...
I don't know much of this book but at age 19 it started? really?
I don't think 19 is a child-like age. Weren't there any steps she could've taken? Was it mutual or something? I mean, age 19?

She was on 'One Day at A Time' (in the 70's). Her dad was in the band Mammas and Poppas. She's on Oprah today I think.
At first it happened when they were both on drugs then it became mutual. Sick, very sick.
Clearly, you've never had someone in a position of "authority" take advantage of you.
Proud Mama to Mickey (12.03.09) and Nemo (06.06.13)
she's on OPRAH right now.
I was old enough to remember that show and to tell you the truth, she's always been a bit flaky, sad to say.
There are millions of people that have to endure the tragedy of incest and i think she's exploiting it a bit.

I think I read somewhere that it was consensual.
This EXACTLY!

Actually??? I have but thanks for your commentary.
I'm clearly stating that I find it very unfortunate that it still happens at a later age when you are more in a position to understand what is happening and can do something about it. And it was mutual.
Way to be supportive here.

I'm watching this interview.. for some odd reason.. and it's weirding me out.?
She talked about being seduced by Mick Jagger and how it was consensual, etc.. and that it was "Mick Jagger, I mean, come on" is what she said.
Just odd. It's really odd all around. ?
To play
advocate, I think celebrities publish books to let others know that they had a struggle in their lives and to see if their story can help any other people...and of course, the money (their publicists or agents usually persuade them to partner with a ghost writer or another writer to get help with actually writing the book itself)
BUT, she's been a troubled Hollywood child for a loooong time and sadly, it's catching up with her.

What Heather wrote disgusts me. Like she could know your situation?? I agree that at 19, you can understand what's happening and take the steps to get out....especially when it's mutual.
The first time it happened, they had done a ton of drugs together, she blacked out, and came-to with her father on top of her. That sounds like rape to me.
I do agree that the AW aspect of it is sick, but she is sick herself (a lifelong addict), and her father was too. Not in any way making an excuse, but I think when you spend most of your life in an altered state, rational thought no longer exists.
some 19 year olds are very mature, some are basically still children. I think if you are living in a crazy bubble where your dad basically got you hooked on drugs and then raped you, you are a victim of CHILD molestation, and it's just as ridiculous to blame a 19 year old victim as a 9 year old victim. The father is the sick bastard, not the girl. She clearly has problems, but they were likely all caused by having a SICK F**K for a dad. She says it was consensual for 10 years, but that's not possible when you don't have the emotional capacity to realize you are being raped by your father while you are BLACKED OUT. She's all kinds of messed up, but I wouldn't say she should have had some rational thought to walk away. Would you be saying that if she were 17 and more 'technically' still a child?
SEAMOMMA:
Look, there a million and three different ways to interpret the whole situation. You can say this about her psychological and mental capacity and you can say that...i.e., she was under the influence, she was growth stunted, she was psychologically messed up, etc. etc.....all that may be 200% true but you grow up pretty damn fast in Hollywood, and after the rape and the initial incestuous programming into her mind, she knew it was wrong but continued to consent to it for more drugs. She enabled the enabler and participated in her own victimization.
I, and only I, have a VERY hard time believing that in her industry and at that particular age (growth stunted or not) that there wasn't one person she could've turned to for protection or help. And I will repeat the obvious, whether the father is carpet cleaner or an international rock star, she can only play the "victim" for so long until she realized that she partially contributed to the situation and enabled the enabler.
She seems like a lost soul on Oprah and I pray she can get some sort of relief from such a tragic past and help find herself again."Wearing his BING CROSBY clothes and crooning...buuuh buuh buuuh"
