My confidence has been crushed...

A new mama just started back to work and is part of the "mothers-room" schedule. As I was collecting my milk for the day, I see that she's got over 24 oz in the fridge and that's just from 2 pumping sessions!

Here I thought I was doing pretty good by getting 15-20 from 3 quick sessions.

As if it wasn't bad enough that the highlight of my work day (besides leaving) is going down to pump, I now have created a competition with myself on who can pump more. When did I become this lame?!??!

  • The joy of being a mother.

  • This makes me so happy that you aren't a dude because I can only imagine what you'd do in the urinal. You'd probably be having competitions to see who can pee farther.

I think you are doing awesome and who the F cares what she pumps? Jilli is well fed and happy and healthy.

    Shut it.

This is definitely the result of your boredom.

  • You ARE doing really good!  I could never relax enough at work to get very much.

I remember my boss pumping in front of me (a whole other story) and in 4-5 minutes, she was swearing because the collection bottles were overflowing all over her.  That was before I had kids, so I had no idea that that was unusual.  Some women can just pump a lot more than others I guess.

  • Are you Monica (from Friends)?

If the highlight of your day is pumping. Dude, duuuuuuuuude. Oh and I think what you pump is about what I pumped.

Third and completely unrelated - I'm not going to be in your area any time soon. I declined the trip. In 2011 we have a conference in Pittsburgh ... :)

  • Here... I will make you feel better.

I could barely get anything.  I ended up having to take domperidon to be able to pump more.  I had to pump 1 more session than DD would have ate to try to get enough. It was constantly a battle to keep up.  It's a freaking miracle that I BF for 15 monhts.

Feel better?  You are super-milk-mom compared to me! Big Smile

LOL - I can NOT imagine my boss pumping in front of me or me pumping in front of anyone besides DH and DD!

  • I am sure your milk is much better quality.  I would take quality over quantity any day.
  • As long as you have enough for her to be fed the next day at daycare, it doesn't matter.  That's my opinion.

Oh, and I was able to get a lot more when I first went back than I can now.  Not nursing him has made my supply drop a bit.  Maybe hers will, too?

  • ok, but what do her boobs look like?  My guess is they are deflated nasty tata's and you got a killer rack..

I'd rather have pretty boobs then boobs that squirt a lot of "modified sweat"...just sayin.

  • The highlight of my WORK day, not my whole day! That WOULD be pathetic, and probably mentally dangerous.

Yes, I am totally bored here. Although now I have more stuff to look up on the internet (how to increase my milk supply)!

Bummer about the trip NN. I was looking forward to meeting your crazyass!

  • ps - I'm getting about 20 in 3 sessions, so I think she is not normal!
  • You're doing great! The first day I went back to work I got 14oz in one session! Craziness. About a month later I was barely getting 1/2 that and it kept going down until at the end I was getting about 5 oz per session.

  • OMG -- thank you baby jesus for this post!  Or should I say --- thank you Viva for this post.

This has me hysterically laughing.  Really!
I mean, the whole competition thing but then X's comment about the urinal and Joe's comment about quality over quantity...........freaking HILARIOUS!

  • LOL - you guys are awesome!

Yes, as a matter of fact, my rack is doing quite well so far! Not saggy at all but I haven't met her so I can't compare. I've just seen her milk. Stick out tongue

  • LOL you should totally stalk the milk room (or whatever the hell you call it) until you see her and give her a medal!

  • Maybe I'll just leave her a medal on her pump case.  Cool

  • My body NEVER pumped effectively either time.  So even in the prime of nursing/pumping the most I ever got at a single session (from both breasts) was max 5oz.  And that was on a good day- mostly it was 4ish oz.  I supplemented w/formula because I just couldn't keep up.  The fact that you are pumping is awesome in & of itself- I know, I did it too & it is hard to structure your day sometimes to fit it in.
