Have you never had the chickenpox? If you have, you have nothing to worry about DH had the shingles a while back..it's not contagious unless you've never had CP.
But, how would your client know whether you've had it or not... that's pretty bad of him not to say anything! People are freaking dumbasses!

I know several people that had CP as children & got shingles as adults, including my husband
I work in an ER and was exposed. My doc said that you don't get shingles from someone with shingles, but you can get chicken pox if you've never had them. But if you've had chicken pox or they told you that you were immune you're fine.

I have never had chicken pox and I work at a nursing home where we have had 5 cases of shingles since I have been pregnant. They said it doesnt matter if I have or have not had chicken pox i still need to stay away! The good news is though the only way to really get it is if you touched on of him sores and then yourself. Which I doubt happened!!
Shingles isn't nearly as contagious as chicken pox. Especially if you had chicken pox before. I had it a few years ago and NOBODY else got it. Nada...it took a while for the dr to finally determine what it was though..which was a PITA.
The point I am making...don't worry about it. You probably won't get it.
EDIT: I got Shingles and I had chicken pox when I was little so this is why it took forever for them to determine it was shingles.

So I put no stock in having CP as a child.
But still...ARGH!!!!
yep. CP stays active in your system and can reappear as the shingles. I guess they have a vaccine out for this for people over 60! It's not contagious though if you've had CP.
But still an annoying situation!
ETA: looks like different doctors have different opinions, from what I'm reading above.. that's what DH's doctor told me.. eww to the touching sores part, though I did touch DH's rash (never sores) trying to see what the heck was going on. I never got it

Shingles comes from a dormant chicken pox virus that is a;ready in your body. Its not contagious unless you haven't had the chickenpox. You can get shingles if you've had chicken pox as a child, you just can't catch it from someone.

From what I understand the shingles are caused by the dormant chicken pox virus in your body from when you had them before. Then when under extreme stress or such, the virus comes back or reactivates as shingles. But you can't "catch" shingles. Just chicken pox from shingles.
One of my colleagues had this recently. Although I made sure I gave him a wide berth, I was told that you are unlikely to get it unless you touch one of the affected areas. I never touched him, and I never got it. (p.s. I've also had chicken pox- as a teenager, which was horrifying, but that's a separate story).
I caught shingles a few years ago and I had chicken pox as a child. My doctor said if you have a weakened immune system or under extreme stress you can "catch" them. How he explained it though was that it's more likely to be caught from someone with chicken pox, not someone with shingles. However, I don't know who I came in contact with that had either. That sucks What a d-bag.
He definitely should have mentioned it, even though the likelyhood of you catching chicken pox from it is extremely low (you can't "catch" shingles, but you can contract chicken pox from it if you are not already immune).

Um, this is NOT true. Both my mom and MIL have had the shingles... and they both had Chicken Pox.
My husband, mom, and two people I work with had shingles during the time that I've been pegnant. So weird! I was really nervous, but my OB said they weren't contagious. Dumb client, anyway!

Ugh, that sucks. I get so angry when people knowingly expose other people to illness.?
Some of my family are horrible about bringing their kids to family events when sick. Drives me bonkers.
I hope you don't get it! ?
