Is there an alternative to Pedialyte?

DC was vomitting last week so we gave him pedialyte.

He drank maybe only 6 oz and didn't want to drink anymore.

We have a lot leftover... this stuff isn't cheap and seems like a waste since you can't keep it for long.

Do thye make single servings or is there an alternative to pedialyte, just wondering?

TIA

Re: Is there an alternative to Pedialyte?

  • I know Target has a store brand of it. So does Walgreens. Not sure if either has the single serve option though.
  • Loading the player...
  • they make single serve options, they also make powder that you can pour into water (like the crystal light stuff), popsicles, and dissolving strips.
  • I beleive there are single servings. There are also pedialyte pops that you can put in the freezer (or just let them drink the unfrozen stuff straight).

There are generics all over the place, too - target, walmart, grocery brand, etc.  And different flavors. DS wouldn't touch the fruit flavor but loved the bubble gum.  Weird.  We ended up buying all of the flavors.

  • Not sure about the single servings but my friend give her kids gatorade.

  • I've used Gatorade before. I'm sure some people would get in a flap about that but it's not like I give it to her everyday. One time, people! She only had it once Stick out tongue
  • They do make single serves but they're more expensive. We tend to buy the store brand.

Do you have a popsicle mold? You could probably pour your leftovers in the mold and make popsicles. If not, you might try freezing in an ice cube tray and then just thawing out next time he needs it. Don't know if that would work but it might.

  • When we were doing this, I recall reading that gatorade was bad for little babies. (DS was maybe 8m?)

But I'm sure it's not the end of the world, either.

  • I took LO to the pedi today for diarrhea and fever and she said I could give her some gatorade ( a little diluted) since she wont drink pedialyte.

  • our pedi says diluted gatorade too, but not purple or red in case he throws up since you want to make sure you can tell if there is blood in the vomit.

**I heard about the gatorade trick too.  Interesting on the color thing though, good to know.  Try that.

And I guess in case it stains you'd want a colour that matches your living room, lol.
