I'm a first time mom due in November. I'm nervous about childcare and don't want to leave our infant girl in daycare.
The process of having to pay a nanny directly is intimidating so I would really prefer to use an agency which pays their nannies and offers them benefits, etc.
Has anyone ever come across agency that does this? I would love to find at least 2 or 3 if possible. Thanks!
Re: NANNY AGENCIES THAT PAY NANNIES DIRECTLY?
I have no idea if something like that exists. I have recently been looking into the nanny option myself and heard of a website called care.com
I know from my own research that in my area, all of the nanny agencies refer nannies to you, but you then contract with the nanny you choose, and pay her/him directly.
Also, I understand being nervous about childcare, but honestly, there is something to be said for centers providing better oversight than a nanny who is alone with the baby with no oversight... I would have a hard time going with a nanny that I didn't trust completely, and when you're cold-hiring someone from an agency or website, how do you really trust that person at first?
There are many payroll agencies out there that will pay your nanny for you. We use a payroll service to pay our nanny (we pay her on the books) so we wanted someone to deal with the withholding and paperwork, etc. It's easier for us - more expensive (on top of a nanny which is more expensive childcare option to begin with) but it's worth it in IMO. Usually a nanny agency can also give you some option on companies that will handle your nanny's payroll.
As for the poster who made some comments about nannies and oversight, I have to respectfully disagree with your comments. I spent a long time searching for a nanny, worked with an agency, conducted background checks and had trial runs where she came to my home and watched my daughter both with and without me. To even state my nanny has no oversight and that there's no trust is an ignorant comment when you haven't been through the process. I did not enter the decision to hire our nanny lightly - just as I'm sure you didn't choose a DCP lightly. At the end of the day, our nanny give better care and love to my daughter than I believe our daughter could get anywhere else (or from anyone else). Our nanny is like a member of our family (truly) and while I never considered daycare for my childcare, I would never make a judgmental comment about that as a choice like you did about nannies.
Thanks Ali212,
The payroll company is such a great idea. It expands our options with regard to the agencies we can use.
