Has anyone ever???

I am new to the Bump and normally don't post anything but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a stranger tell you how to parent your child. Recently DS (who is 2) and myself were at Target. Before shopping we sat for lunch. There were two women with their slightly older daughters sitting across from us. After a few minutes of eating DS became distracted and was getting up from his seat and playing instead of eating. I had to keep reminding him to get back in his chair, sit down, take a bite etc. As we were nearing the end of our lunch a woman from the other table turned and said "Just make hin sit or give up" I kindly pretended that I did not hear. Has this ever happened to anyone else and how did you handle it?

  • I don't have advice since my kiddo is only 7 months, but I did want to say welcome! I hope you like it here and stick around. Smile

  • I'd eitehr ignore it or say "thanks for the tip" and then ignore them.

  • This would really bug me and I would want to tell her to mind her own business and that I can parent my own child. However I am not a very confrontational person so I would probably just ignore her or give her a look and ignore her.

  • Well thank you for the input ldies I appreciate it, and I feel like my ignoring was the right thing to do. Although I can't help wishing I was quick and witty and could have formulated some sharp retort on the spot.

  • That has happened to me occasionally and I am not confrontational in person - I always think of something to say after it's too late.

HOWEVER...  I have used this - hee, hee.  I have looked at them and said "Thanks.  I NEVER thought of that!"  It's just sarcastic enough but the actual words aren't rude.  It felt really good, too, but not something that feels comfortable to me.

If they say something super rude and inappropriate you can always say to them:  "Did you really just say that?"  I said that once when someone made a snarky comment about my pregnant with twins belly.
