MIL claims she was 4 weeks past due with DH

I was asking MIL how big DH was when he was born, her reply "he was 8 lb 9 oz, but I had him at 44 weeks!" I think my eyes might have bugged out of my head a little. I didn't even think they would let you go a month past due even 25 years ago!

I seriously wanted to call BS on her having him 4 weeks late.

Has anyone heard of this. I think it sounds like she didn't calculate very well.

Re: MIL claims she was 4 weeks past due with DH

  • I was 17 days past due (umm, 38 years ago). I know they used to let women go further past due than they do now but I have never heard of that long.

  • my mom was a month late with me... that was 28 years ago.

  • I was due October 2nd and my mom had me November 1st

    I guess its possible

But I bet its even more possible that they werent as efficient in determining the due date.

  • DH's good friend was a month late. He was not miscalculated- they let them go longer then. he was only about 8 lbs and so then as well, but was very wrinkly.
  • My mom was 3 weeks late with me 29 years ago.  I weighed 8lbs 12oz when I was born.

  • My mom swears she was a month over due with me.  And that was after they tried to induce her TWICE!  Finally the 3rd time I made my appearance.

  • Well, back in the day, technology wasnt as advanced as today, with measuring and monitoring fetal development. Now days, even if you lie and cheat about a menstrual, the medical technology to see development can easily clear that up. Maybe they went off a LMP which was wrong, and the baby came when it was supposed to.

  • Yup, they used to let women go way past their due date back in the day.
  • I was almost 3 weeks late and they never discussed induction with my mom (I even got to read my mom's chart because her OBGYN that delivered me was my OBGYN when I was first starting my female visits) so I believe this...
  • I know that with my older sister, my mom was over 42wks... and I don't believe they had any induction plans in place, either.

  • according to my mom's docs I was 1 month late...due the last day of Feb & born March 30th...yet I was less than 7 pounds when I was born. Pretty sure they got her EDD wrong. Times have changed...

This probably had a lot to do with it.

  • One of my co-workers today told me his wife was a month overdue with two of their kids.  He's older (he could be my grandfather), so I'm assuming induction wasn't really an option back then.  He was shocked when I told him that they'll induce at 2 weeks past my EDD.
  • I was only 2 weeks late (29 years ago), but my mom was scheduled to be induced two days later.  They wouldn't have let her go longer than 2 weeks.

  • my mom was a month late with me--i was almost 10lbs--but that was in England at the time--31 years ago--

Im not sure about here in the US--but in europe they still often let you go 3 weeks past your dd

  • my mom was over 3 weeks late with my sister, that was 22 years ago.  definitely possible.

edit:  my mom says she was pretty sure what her edd was based on not having had much nookie w/ my dad around the time she got pg, also my sis was almost 10 pounds when she was born (the rest of my siblings were all around 7lbs) - so it is likely she was in there a little longer than 40 wks.

  • I bet in a lot of cases, the EDD was wrong.
  • My BFF was born a month late and weighed 13 lbs! That was 26 years ago...
  • My Mom was exactly a month late with me.  I was due 9/25 and was born 10/25 via emergency c-section.  It's possible.

  • My prenatal instructor went to 44 weeks with 2 of her kids.

So did one of my daycare grandparents-4 weeks overdue.

  • My DH is 38. His mother says she went three weeks overdue with him. He weighed 10 pounds, 8 ounces at birth. MIL is freakishly small, and in the pics of them in the hospital, she looks like she's holding a toddler.
  • I was due August 4th and my birthday is August 24th. I think they let women go way past their due date and I also think they weren't as accurate in calculating fetal age.  Now, most of us get sonograms really early that very accurately determine due date.

  • It happened to my MIL. My DH was 4 weeks late. He was due Dec. 25th but came Jan. 25th. He was her 4th child too. He also came out at 12lbs 7oz which makes me scared everytime I am pregnant!
  • My guess would be that she ovulated late, so she wasn't really 44 wks pg, it'd just been 44 weeks since her LMP.  My LMP was in early Feb, making my original EDD 11/15.  I went in for 2 dating u/s and one (erroneously) made me due 12/15.  I was FREAKING out, but I had several drs and nurses told me that that was at the outside edge of 'normal'.  Turns out I ovulated about 2.5 wks late.  My guess is that it was something like that... b/c of the dating u/s we have, our due dates are never really that off.

    Pretty crazy, though!!

  • My MIL says that she was 3 weeks overdue with DH (29 years ago) and he weighed 8lbs. 5oz, that being said she thinks i will be overdue and that our baby will be huge. I was only 7lbs6oz at birth so I think our baby will be somewhere between 7-7.5lbs.
